“very personal and reflective” Bleeding Out – Alexis & The Lazarus Rocket
This track has a fairly contemporary and relevant layout that would work well in among many of the mainstream releases of recent years.
The opening musical ambiance has a haunting and distant feel to it, the leading female vocal opens up the songwriting with a varied and detailed melody line and string of lyrics. The rap vocal that follows hits with impact as the music steps up the energy for a while, the lyrics here also continue to follow the same sort of pathway as the female vocal – the words expressed have something of a freestyle feel to them; there’s a lot that is very personal and reflective of inner thoughts and ideas. Nothing is held back, it’s almost like a diary entry being read out by each party involved.
The track is really unusual in a number of ways; the sound is unique, yet as mentioned – the structure and the whole melody-meets-rap with a well built backing track is very relevant right now. The song perhaps veers off in some difficult to follow directions, the acoustic guitar section that comes into play towards the end seems to arrive at the moment you might otherwise have expected the song to end. In a way, this section alone has a lot of power, perhaps it would work well as indicative of an entirely different song.
However, after this moment, the chorus returns with the full strength of every vocal part and every instrument, and this moment actually has a huge impact. A slightly shorter version of the track would make it more radio friendly, but there’s definitely a lot to listen to that hasn’t quite been heard before, or done in this particular way before. The collaboration is interesting and greatly loaded with unique personalities.
