Exposed Vocals just caught an exclusive interview with Paul Bassom from The Theme
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in South East London. I’ve always been into music and bands from the 1960’s The Who and The Doors etc but growing up I was really into the House Music Scene and it wasn’t until the whole 90s “Britpop” explosion that I started playing the guitar Seriously and Formed my first band within weeks
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
With The Theme we have tried to keep everything, as professional as possible and being self funded that wasn’t always easy, have a good demo recording done and use social media to your advantage. Just avoid the pay to play gigs.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
We are human Mistakes happen and the best way to deal with that is to just carry on and don’t let the audience know.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
We have been to some fantastic cites and venues and the stories would feel the page. We have the full Rock and Roll experience and everything that entails.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
A Home studio is always expanding and without money constraints I would have the best but for now I’m upgrading my interface and monitor speakers, Universal Audio Apollo Twin Duo and KrK Rokit RP5 G3 Active Studio Monitor. Respectively.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
A good PR campaign is very important and please do your homework on the company, because we have been shafted in the past and if your paying thousands of pounds then it hurts.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Steve Marriott
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
The New album by The Theme LIQIUID, which will be released on the 1st November.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Print industry, the same day job I’ve been doing since I left school.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Liquid Album and the B-Side EP, which is made up of the tracks, recorded during the Liquid album sessions that never made it onto the album. All good tracks, they just either never worked with the other album tracks or purposely recorded for the EP.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
Too Many shout outs but people will know.
Band members past and present, Producers and anyone that has helped us on the way.
