New Interview with C.G aka Chinaman aka Chandler Gray – CEO of HILLTOP Records

C.G aka Chinaman aka Chandler Gray is the CEO of HILLTOP Records. He also is an artist on the label , he’s a producer and writer. Born in raised in Anniston Alabama. As A Unsigned Hype through the various years he has worked with major and indie artist. Now he’s back again with four hit singles climbing the charts fast and furiously.

Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?

C.G: I heard about exposed vocals on Twitter. I am dedicated artist to my music and want the world to hear what I have to offer.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

C.G: I grew up in a small town called Anniston,AL. Well growing up i come from a huge family of talented singers.My mom God rest her said she song while carrying me through her pregnancy.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

C.G: Well long story short it has changed a few times,it used to  C-LO,Chinaman,and now C.G.All are alter egos, different personalities. C.G is like my fresh start coming back reinvented as just me Chandler Gray

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

C.G: I think is it a great way to get your music out! YES! You can’t always be about money sometimes you have to just love what you do!I also use to perform things like weddings and things for free that’s who i build my rep as a solid artist

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

C.G:SURE. First you must be serious about your work, can’t expect any handouts,and most importantly pay like you way!! Now and days really no one is will to waist their time and money on someone or a product that won’t take responsibility in helping themselves first!

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

C.G:Na i’m always practicing my craft. MY MOM ALWAYS TOLD ME YOU PERFORM HOW YOU PRACTICE!

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

C.G:YES.Nothing more than the turn up is real!

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

C.G:To be honest i always look inside myself first!! I HAVE HAD ALOT TO GO ON IN MY LIFE: From almost dying as a teenager to losing both parent to CANCER back to back! Releasing from my heart and mind is my natural songwriting process

C.G: NONE AS OF NOW BUT BOY BEFORE I HAD SOME MUSIC OUT THAT WAS MISSING SOME THINGS BUT OVERTIME I TOOK PRIDE IN WHAT I PUT OUT

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

C.G: I would put my money in the bank and let it sit.I would continue writing new material for upcoming projects.

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

C.G: We’re always upgrading to the most premium equipment.All the top equipment!

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

C.G: Word of mouth, social media,online blogs and music sites

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

C.G: 2PAC, BIGGIE, OUTKAST, 50,YO GOTTI, 2Chainz just a few but really anyone of any genre that’s serious for real

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

C.G :GETTIN IT the film we working on, the clothing brand of HTR AND MIXTAPEMAJORZ, new mixtapes from Coast2Coast

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

C.G: I more than likely would’ve went to the league playing either football or basketball because i gave them hell in sports before i got shot my senior year of high school!
