“the music is a win very early on” MsTsh – Get Yo Praise On
This track has a title that conjures up an initial expectation, though the music on pressing play redirects you entirely – the unpredictable nature of the music is a win very early on. The track has a darkness about it, this comes in the form of the continuous riff, minimal and slightly haunting, the thick clap of the beat, the distorted, contrasting riff that later joins the mix, and indeed in each and every vocal performance. There’s a very serious tone to the delivery of the verses, though there’s also a lot of character, and a fair few of the lines have something unique and attention grabbing about them.
The performances are strong, this sense of personality is consistent and it adds a lot to the overall sound of the music. The backdrop is massively new sounding, and it contrasts well with the title, as mentioned, so this brings the song forward into fresh territory – as does the personality expressed throughout. This is the only thing that can’t be faked or believably imitated. A lot of style and passion has gone into the performances, and this is clear, and this is what captivates for the most part.
The lyrics also have a lot about them that is out of line with the praising concept, and this too holds value. The original nature of the lyrics and the performances works well, and furthermore – the hook is hugely memorable. It’s a simple, melody free hook, the key line sinks in though – the music intensifies during these lyrical moments, so your mind takes it in more intently, and you can’t help but focus and take it away with you after listening. The switch between voices and personalities also works well, the multi-layered presence of character and perspective shines well.
