Music Review – Mr Flaga – X Keys
This track has a quality classic dance feel to it, a manic intro followed by the ultimate bass heavy backing track and beat. I love the experimental flair that shines bright throughout it, never getting complacent with the sound, yet still all held together brilliantly by that thread of classic, almost vintage, sound scape. The little piano style break is a perfect example – completely unexpected, but really well suited and welcomed.
It’s a piece of music that gets you dancing, even if it’s 1.45 in the afternoon. You get the summer time’s on its way feeling from this, and yet that lack of complacency also means it never gets boring – it never settles for too long on the rhythm, just the right amount of time in fact. I love the retro games vibe that plays out quite frequently in the background. It feels like the kind of track I’ve known for years, but just rediscovered. Yet every corner turned within it is something new and fresh.
There’s nothing negative to be said about the track, you can really get lost in this one, the production is great – it has that classic feel to it, maybe unintentionally vintage, but it works really well in this musical setting. It’s great to hear the music and the sounds and the effects all played around with so enthusiastically, yet with clearly developed skill. It’s one for the MP3 player, download it to your phone even – quite addictive to listen to; the more you press play, the more involved you get. Also, each time you listen you notice something you hadn’t before. A brilliant character trait for a track like this. And then of course, behind all of this, that bass line and beat swim around you superbly. I look forward to hearing this one out and about over the summer. It’s big, and it stands out from a lot of other bass heavy tracks I’ve heard recently.
