Music Review and Interview with Kid Killz – My Heart
An immediately compelling sample opens this track, it has that dark and dirty sound that fills the room and makes you really listen and take it seriously. The tin can kind of vocal effect used makes the leading voice feel a little like a public service announcement or radio communication, in the depths of a massive incident, some kind of necessary message to the masses to try to rewire the world.
I Put My Heart in This as a lyric is exactly the kind of serious passion that the music and the vocal delivery combine to further produce. I feel like a vocal break to a point of pure instrumentation for a moment would really give listeners that time to soak up the whole vibe and concept of this one, but for the most part it’s pretty powerful and effective. It’s a lead vocal with a smart sound to it, a certain kind of effortless style, a smooth delivery that seems to be both public and intimate at the same time.
The beat works really nicely, keeps that hip-hop vibe bouncing throughout but doesn’t distract from any of the lyrics or the main musical riff at any point. In many cases, I think passion and confidence, often above all else, can be a defining factor in whether or not a piece of music or a particular track is effective. With this one, the lyricist has both, so it all plays out as a very real sound, an artist at work, a product that has been crafted to sound exactly as it was intended to. Some of the lyrics and the imagery are brilliantly powerful, which even further highlights that passion and that strength within the track. It’s effective, for sure, and it has a very thoughtful and reflective feel to it. I’d be keen to hear more from this artist.
