Music Review for Jordan Royale’s new single “Obsession”
The musical ambiance of this piece shines so brightly from the offset. There’s a somewhat glitchy and trip-hop inspired edge to this otherwise rather classic R&B style track. The vocal parts seem a little overwhelming at times, the music is great, and the vocal flow is energetic and captivating on occasion, but just during the initial vocal introduction parts – there’s a little too much going on to catch any lyrics or melody line. After a moment or two though, the music and the vocal part, the verse section in particular, really start to fuse well together. After this point you really notice the space within the track, the air around the hook line that really lets you breathe that melody in.
The music fades out quite beautifully, and in fact it seems a little too soon to do so  once you really get into the rhythm and the vibe of the track, it’s not one you’re keen to hear the end of. The overall vibe is great, there’s a mellow yet emotionally uplifting feel to the music, and the hook repeats just enough times towards the end to leave it echoing around in your mind.
To look at it as an introductory track to the artist, the musical backdrop is a massive strong point  the stop and start structure of the sound, the creative exploration in the instrumentation and the effects; there’s a lot about this piece that is unique and very different from the bulk of recent releases related to this sort of genre and style.
The more you listen, the more you get a feel for that verse vocal, that flow and that presentation of lines. As mentioned, the rhythm is great, and the voice holds a lot of character, whilst keeping very close to the beat, so the whole thing just merges into one final experience.
