Music Review for J Grace – Love Me feat. Frankie J
‘Love Me’ showcases a stunning vocal performance at the forefront of it’s melodic and joyfully rhythmic format. The swift and smooth movement between notes, the tone, the ease with which the artist makes her way through the song, is noticeably impressive throughout. The music takes a bit of a back seat at first due to the striking vocal performance, but once the song has started to leave it’s mark – the whole thing is quite recognisable, familiar sounding, in a good way – it has a nostalgic warmth to it, not often heard since the days of Mariah Carey and the likes paving the way in popular music. The melody of that chorus, the hook, has a slight UK Garage sound to it, which is really effective in this setting – it makes for a hugely memorable core, so the audience will go away singing it, remembering it, and will ultimately recognise it next time the track is played.
The whole piece has a really feel good sort of vibe to it. The pace seems quite quick at all times, unusual perhaps, but it works pretty well – it also makes certain you won’t get tired of the song or the melody. In fact, the opposite is more likely to occur, in that you’ll wish it was a little longer, or you’ll press play again, and again, and subsequently buy the song – to take with you wherever you go. From a song writing perspective, it’s effective, and in that sense it has everything a good pop song should have. Plus, that vocal really shines so brightly; the sort of performance whereby there is no doubt at all that this artist is a singer – this is something they are great at, naturally talented, with both softness and power stepping forward intermittently throughout the music.
