Music Review for G.I (OuThaGate)’s new single ‘Pay Up’
“Confident and Versatile”
…That is what G.I (OuThaGate) said when asked to describe himself in a few words. We all know that some of the most popular and influential rap of the entire genre comes from the dirty south. The story is no different for G.I. with his break out single ‘Pay Up’ (currently in full rotation on Kiss 104.7 FM in Atlanta) so move over Geto Boys – and let me introduce to you this hot new artist hailing from New Orleans and now tearing up the mics up north!
He’s bringing that down south Hip Hop culture to the curb with lyrics like:
“I just want the money / I just want the paper / If we ain’t talking money / I talk to ya later”
So whether we’re talking about girls with a thin waist and fat ass or donks with 24’s and bank rolls – G.I (OuThaGate) is sure to ring bells all along the south and northeast now with “Pay Up” *smashing radio potential*.
Overall, this is an inspiring and enjoyable hip-hop track that will be popular with G.I’s existing fan-base and should bring him some new ones. With strong production and a catchy, commercial hook it is also very well suited to radio. Couple that with a great video, and I think G.I may have a hit on his hands!
… it won’t be long before he gets the recognition he deserves, from both the public as well as his hip hop peers, and he has the talent to stick around for a long time.

Gi(OuThaGate): I mainly grew up in Slidell,Louisiana but I was originally born in New Orleans and eventually moved back and currently reside there.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Gi(OuThaGate): My name , well the G.I come from what my people call me Gino which was my daddy nickname growing up and the “Outhagate” I mean just like the term “off the chain” , “off the meter” , that’s how I feel about myself and what Im doing at times lol, it works for me.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Gi(Outhagate): I don’t think too much on it , I mean if you a unsigned artist like myself I would look at it as a good thing far as getting yourself heard, a lil exposure but you got to think on a business level at some point. I don’t mind sharing my music ,songs come back to back this way I ain’t losing.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Gi(OuThaGate): Just keep at it , keep on em , If you don’t have a team working with you , promote yourself to the max ,let your work speak for itself and hopefully you pick up a buzz or network with people who are about helping you be successful.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Gi(OuThaGate):Honestly , I haven’t performed live in a while focusing on the business side , ,promoting myself , and staying consistent with my music. All in all though people make mistakes , catch yourself and keep it going and then you know you need a little rehearsal before your next gig lol.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Gi(OuThaGate): Mann , I’m waiting to hit the road , haven’t yet but I definitely got plans too.
You could bet when I do ,I’ll have another review for y’all with some exciting stories lol win, lose r draw it’s going to be outhagate where ever I tour.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Gi(OuThaGate): I mean I might hear something , something might happen , or I could just be in the studio zoning checking out tracks and come up wit music off the dome ,out the gate.I usually like to lay at least 2 or 3 hooks downs to beats and then come back and go over each one .
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Gi(OuThaGate): Right now , I’m currently on SoundCloud.com @ FHEFettihoundEntertainment , signing up on reverb real soon so look out for me on there @Gi(OuThaGate) .
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Gi(OuThaGate): Embarrassing ? I wouldn’t say any embarrassing ,maybe some you wouldn’t expect to be there if you were stereotyping me personally lol , you know just a lil Mary j, Lauren Hill, Donnel Jones , KidRock , Christian (the twins) , just different type of music lol.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Gi(OuThaGate): Wow, I would really spend a lot of time with my family , all of them . I miss a lot of family get togethers , even birthdays at times . Feel selfish at sometimes but I really want us all to be living in a whole new situation so I hope my sacrificing those valued moments are worth it in the long run and my money will be smartly managed while trying not to spend it all on family and kids .
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Gi(OuThaGate): Yeaa Mann , I need that fasho , but I make do with the (BludBird) Mic, I actually work off “Garage band ” at this point only because I’m so familiar with the mixing of songs on there already and I don’t have a personal engineer so I try to make most convient for me lol.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Gi(OuThaGate): Well ,anyway I could online , and in the streets you might see me every other day with a book bag full of disc I pass out and take donations for creating more projects , I like to be hands on when dealing folks and my music but the “Web” has took over ,you don’t see as much artist in the street with they music anymore smh.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Gi(Outhagate): Another wow.. I would say someone like Mac from no limit records who is currently incarsarated , shidd where? New Orleans ,Superdome action lol and just because I always listened to his worldwar3 album and he was and still is a inspiring artist to me .
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Gi(OuThaGate): My first mixtape coming real soon featuring the songs I sent in to you all, which were more on some single type songs but I have some more deep real life type songs on there I can’t wait to let out featuring tracks from SaruBeatz and WadrunnaBeatz ,you can find them both on SoundCloud.com check em out I really like there sound.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Gi(OuThaGate):Hmmm, I don’t know ,I like helping younger kids so I would say something I could do to help them rather ,coaching sports, life coaching , Camp lol something …
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Gi(OuThaGate): I really don’t remember though , I could guess it was either , Mac, Lil Wayne, or Lil boosie though I was kinda stuck on them 3 .
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Gi(OuThaGate): I ask myself that too really though! I gotta good support system as far as certain members of my family who talk to me ,assist me when they can but God first ,he make it look easy from the outside looking in lol.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
Gi(OuThaGate): 2016, I’m OuThaGate tryna be where ever ,doing what ever I can to make this dream come real and my music be felt…
