Music Review for Catalina Shortwave
The music industry has always been competitive and cutthroat at heart, and these days, income is becoming harder and harder to find. Making a little money playing music on the side isn’t so hard, but in order to turn a passion into a career, you have to want it more than anything else. Though there is a ton of luck involved, many factors can be influenced to put you in a position to launch a musical career.
So, lets talk about Catalina Shortwave, a group of artists hailing from New England.
Overall, this is a fantastic album that takes all the best elements of Country and Rock and combines them to create an arresting and potent sound. It manages to sidestep what could have become mere pastiche and revitalizes a sub genre for the modern age, in a similar way to bands like Hootie & The Blowfish and The Black Keys. Fans of those groups will find much to enjoy here.
When listening to this record, I can’t help but notice the guitars as being the highlight. The notable psychedelic feel. It has a glow or warmth to it that immediately stands out makes you appreciating the simpler life.
The tracks (Above): Darkstar, Breakaway, Anne Boleyn, Your Old Letters are well-written and has been produced to recreate the raw, overdriven sound of Country / Rock. Besides Ann Bolyne, a slow paced, haunting song; a great track but seems a bit flat at times. This album seems to pick up and get better as it goes along.
I would like to also add that there is an impressively broad emotional range in the songs that reflect the
ups and downs of life on this record. This is a rare jewel of an album that achieves an authentic sound.
