Music Review – Brittney Chantele – R.I.S.E
Respect, integrity and self-control… Those opening lines captivate you as you listen, they grab your attention, in a completely unexpected and unusual way. The music has a rhythm and blues meets soul meets reggae kind of vibe, it has a certain simplicity, it sets a great vibe, plus the vocal is gorgeous but in a gentle and subtle manner. It’s those lyrics that really reach out and make you pay attention. “Music is my weapon” is another brilliant example. The importance of a powerful message delivered in such a poetic manner is often overlooked, but it really speaks to a lot of people that otherwise might not hear or grasp such messages or ideas.
The music itself plays out and winds it’s sound, it’s riffs, and it’s melodies around you. It has that day time festival set feeling to it, but then the power within those words and the gentle way in which they’re delivered, almost whispered to you, really adds to the effect. It makes you want to put the track back to the start and listen over again. If the music works, which it does, it’s lyrics like these that are likely to make listeners come back for more. I’d be more than keen to listen to more music from this artist, to listen to an entire album even, and it would be a pleasure to attend a live show and witness the delivery in real time.
This is one of those songs that doesn’t over express itself by adding every instrument under the sun or overwhelming you with harmonies and effects, it just lets the music and the words do the work. The strength is in the simplicity of it, and the message that is delivered is not missed because it is so clear and so right there in front of you from the very start.
