Music Review
A Haygan brings 90’s R&B back with his hit new single ‘I Like That’ and it is sure to turn heads with his smoothly soulful vocals showcasing the catchy polish of his finely attuned songwriting ear. You see, this type of music has power over all of us, an indescribable emotion that leaves our souls craving more… the type of instinctive songwriting and musical talent that makes him one to watch when it comes to passionate and soulful music.
“Girl you know I like that.. and if I give it to you once girl / I promise you’ll be right back”
One word… SMOOTH
Overall, A Haygan has big plans and I’m not sure if there is anything out there that will get in his way. The Indiana Hip Hop scene has a true R&B heavyweight MC in their area who truly understands how to deliver music for 2015 and moving forward. Exclusive Interview:
Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
A Haygan: A fan told me about Exposed Vocals. I looked at the website and saw all the opportunities that I had looking on website to gain more fans.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
A Haygan: I was born in Evansville, IN but attended school from k-12 at Henderson, Kentucky. I began singing in church at a young age and has since then found my calling in life, music. As a youth, I gained an appreciation of classical arts from one of my teachers and an equal appreciation of music from my mother. I also studied dance from an early age and performed in local talent shows. I also enjoyed sports as a child, and attended Henderson County High School in his hometown. After my high-school graduation I received a Basketball scholarship to attend Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky. I later went on to attend WKU in Bowling Green, KY. It was during college that I was encouraged by friends to grab the open mic one night at a club. This experience sparked my love to entertain audiences
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name?
A Haygan: A Haygan is the name my mama gave me. She told me when I was born I was going to be somebody special so she came up with a name that people will never forget.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get airplay some tips?
A Haygan: Make sure that you’re only contacting stations that play the type of music you make. This seems obvious, but you’d be shocked at how few people do their homework. Part of this homework means understanding which formats are out there. In addition to knowing the different formats, and knowing which stations are likely to play the music you make, the next step is to know when/how to contact the relevant parties. Of course, this means knowing who the relevant parties are; you must know who determines which music is added to a station’s playlist. This is typically the Program Director and/or the Music Director. As you can imagine, these people are swamped with more music than they can possibly play on their station. To this end, they limit the times when they will take calls from people who want to pitch their music. You must find out when these times are. Will it be easy? No.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour?
A Haygan: Yes I do tour I will be on tour this summer from May until August. I will be on a mid-west tour and the tour is called Heart, Mind & Soul Tour.
Exposed Vocals: What is your usual songwriting process?
A Haygan: I take a piece of paper and write out a flowchart of my song writing process. This basically means creating a visual diagram of the different steps I go through when I write a song. Here’s what this will do for me: It will allow me to develop an incredibly streamlined approach to my song writing. A step-by-step system I can follow when writing a song. And when I follow it I never get sidetracked, or off focus.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website?
A Haygan: Yes I do have a website it’s ahaygan.com where you can find all of the latest news about me. My website will share my new songs before anybody else here’s it out.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
A Haygan: “I Like That” Summer Rain – Carl Thomas, David Ruffin – Walk Away From Love, Case – Missing You
Exposed Vocals: Ok, one last question! If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with?
A Haygan: If I could perform anywhere and with anybody it would be Jeremih. The place would be the Ford center and Evansville, IN because Evansville is where I started my career and there is no place like home.
