Matej Dezelak – Together “a well written and effectively produced piece of music”
The sense of overcoming struggle within relationships and life itself is strong throughout this latest release from songwriter Matej Dezelak. The single has the acoustic warmth of indie folk or singer-songwriter style expression, but it also builds in a gradual and joyful manner that reflects the structure of many modern day pop songs.
The topic of relationships is the most covered one in songs across genres, it’s something that we all have in common and it makes sense to approach it in art in order to appeal to a wider audience. The artist’s way of dealing with the theme in this case offers an easy going and optimistic melody, driving out a unique perspective by means of some fairly honest and personal lyrics. What this all means is that the song has the building blocks of any great pop single. The instrumentation is mellow and easy to listen to, you can tell that this would be a very similar sounding performance if you were to witness it in real time, and the structure of the song follows the effective rules that carry you along at the start and lead you to the hook in a very satisfying way.
It’s not a hook that gets caught in your mind too easily, but the nature of the song isn’t anything relating to loudness or a lasting riff – which is good, music doesn’t have to be attention seeking, it’s just meant to express certain sentiments and connect with people or allow them to escape for a while. ‘Together’ is a well written and effectively produced piece of music. The artist’s leading voice undoubtedly has a lot of character to it, and that helps build a thread of familiarity; this is one of the main things audiences will come to recognise as Matej releases more and more music.
