“The manic energy of the piece spirals around you ” Hakeem Prime – Moves
The track has an unusual style and structure to it, the music and the vocals all seem to collide and crash a little, which is interesting to listen to, though it does at times sound a little more like an album sample or a mashup than a single. The leading riff in the backdrop has a manic energy to it, the hyped up synth sound, almost oriental inspired on occasion, and this works well. The leading vocals all have a good amount of style about them, plus great vocal tone and character, which brings a certain warmth and confidence, and this also helps enhance the essence of the track.
There a certain snippets of melody that stay with you after listening, and the beat stays fairly laid back throughout, so you do start to get into the whole thing more and more after a while. The unusual nature of it helps give it that something different to make you remember it. The manic energy of the piece spirals around you as you listen, and in fact you could hear this being the theme tune playing to some upbeat or high energy movie scene. The more you listen, the more it works, and then slowly but surely the word ‘unusual’ becomes a huge selling point.
The hook is great, and as mentioned, there is a definite level of character shining brightly in the performances. It’s great to hear such passion in the vocal performances, and this shows a love of creating and a love of music as opposed to simply just a song on top of a backing track. The sounds do collide and crash, but it’s striking for the most part, and they work together to build something fresh and exciting. It would appeal to hear further creative work from those involved.
