“makes you appreciate the influence and the inspiration” Frenchie B – Homies
It’s a really great vibe set by this track, the intro makes it’s mark with equal parts energy and calmness. Production wise the sounds all come across as they should, building up this sound-scape that is full and warm and exciting to listen to. The opening vocal melody has a softness and sweetness that works well in this setting, and then the rap vocal that follows adds something else entirely – the attitude and confidence of this vocal performance builds a great contrast within the music, so the song becomes much more striking, and it really makes you want to listen intently.
The flow of this vocal is unusual amongst the backdrop of the beat, but then, so is the nature of the chorus section that follows, and unusual is good – it’s important, really, in such a saturated industry of creativity. The key line in the chorus is perhaps more noticeable as one of the only English speaking moments, but it draws a few too many comparisons to overused samples in hip-hop from throughout the past twenty years. On the other hand though, it’s not a negative moment, it kind of makes you appreciate the influence and the inspiration behind the track, and that helps add to your image of the artist and what it’s all about, so in that respect it makes a lot of sense. The line reaches out to audiences worldwide who will be familiar with it’s context.
The leading rap vocal is a huge strong point for this song, the voice has a lot about it that is new sounding, and the musical backdrop is beautifully calming alongside the performance, so you really get a little bit of everything as you listen. It would be a pleasure to hear more.
