Lonjevity: A Journey Through Hip-Hop, Resilience, and Entrepreneurship
Lonjevity, an American independent Hip Hop R&B artist, producer, and entrepreneur, shares his compelling journey from a challenging upbringing in Wilmington, Delaware, to becoming a multifaceted force in the music industry. Known for his stage name, Lonjevity, which stands for Juggernaut of Every Vermin Insight, he candidly discusses his experiences and the driving force behind his art. Let’s delve into Lonjevity’s story and gain insights into his path as a musician, entrepreneur, and advocate for positive change.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Lonjevity: My name is Kenneth Andrew Roberts, better known by my stage name Lonjevity, aka J.E.V.I PE$CI. It stands for Juggernaut of Every Vermin Insight or Judgement Environment Violence & Instinct, reflecting the subjects I rap about. “Pesci” was given to me by childhood friends based on my stature & volatile demeanor. I am an American independent Hip Hop R&B artist, producer, engineer, singer-songwriter, videographer, entrepreneur, influencer, owner of JEVIPESCI Productions, and a Co-founder of Lvstovdavillainz music group. Additionally, I’m a tattoo artist & real estate business owner. I grew up in a low-income environment in Wilmington, Delaware, 20 minutes south of Philadelphia, surrounded by violence & drug-abusive conditions. As an adult child of alcoholism (ACOA) & struggling addictions, I found inspiration in the creativity of the culture and began using hip hop as an escape to express my emotions. Despite facing challenges, I’ve established myself as a serious artist & business owner.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Lonjevity: Yes, there are two main principles in any positive business goal. Firstly, communication is key. Consistently reach out, network with other artists, attend local events, and showcase your passion and goals. Second, invest in yourself. Before spending on non-essential things, consider putting that money into your business or music. It takes time, but the more you network and invest wisely, the more rewarding it becomes.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Lonjevity: Of course! Learning from mistakes is crucial. I’ve trained myself to see mistakes as opportunities to learn and evolve. Challenges are part of the journey, and if I don’t make mistakes, something is wrong because I’m not learning.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Lonjevity: While I haven’t done an official tour, I’ve performed in various states. The experience can be fun, stressful, exciting, and exhausting. Being professional, prepared, and staying aware of your environment is crucial. I’ve witnessed various incidents during performances, so it’s important to keep a safe awareness at all times.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Lonjevity: Yes, we’re always growing. In the beginning, I had limited resources, even recording on a double cassette tape deck. Now, I own my own recording studio & production company. My journey was tough, facing hardships and setbacks, but I’ve remained humble and focused on creating a positive and inspirational space for creating.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Lonjevity: In today’s technology-driven world, everyone is creating content. Utilizing various social media platforms consistently is crucial. Put your face, name, brand, logo & sound everywhere that’s available to you consistently. While major artists may invest in streams, views, followers, and subscribers, the key is consistency and visibility.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Lonjevity: If I had to choose, performing with (deceased) 2Pac at the House of Blues in West Hollywood or Big Pun in the Bronx. Among the living, Nas in Queens NY, as he has always been an influence with a unique communication style that resonates with me.
Exposed Vocals: What’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Lonjevity: I recently released a full-length album titled “Judgement Environment Violence & Instinct,” featuring legendary QB artists Nine & Big Twins from Infamous Mobb. My group Lvstovdavillainz also released a new album titled “Dayvftr2mrw.” Additionally, my new R&B single “Ryde Witta G” just dropped, and I have upcoming projects set to release in 2023.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Lonjevity: Before changing my life’s course, I might have been incarcerated or worse. Now, I’m involved in various legal hustles, from operating my own production company to real estate, tattoo artistry, and more.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Lonjevity: I’m currently working on editing two new music videos filmed in Mexico, along with upcoming releases and projects. Fans can look forward to more music and creative endeavors.
