Kassy Key from Raindoggs on their newest music video titled TRAMP
So, let’s start with your name. How’d you come up with that?
Kassy Key: I was born with it lmao. Just so happens that it fits perfectly with music, which is kickass.
What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Kassy Key: We do. At the end of the day we write and play to be heard, and share the love of music. As long as people are listening and enjoying, we are happy. We really thrive on our live shows and if it brings people to see us, we are all for it.
Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Kassy Key: Of course. Perfection is madness and always a goal, but you roll with your mistakes and learn from them. I always try and make it seem like it was originally part of the performance, or at least come across that way. The show must go on no matter what so breathe and smile, breathe and smile
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Kassy Key:
I would probably be in the midst of opening my own beauty spa. I am a licensed Esthetician and makeup artist and if music wasn’t my #1 passion in life, I would be pursuing the beauty industry harder. But I am thankful that I have that background as it comes in handy for the looks I choose when I’m performing.
So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Kassy Key:
I am stoked about the new album we’re currently working on. We are moving in the direction of old school rock.n.roll mixed with soul and blues and are on the track of finishing and releasing it this fall.
If you could dabble in another genre of music, what would it be?
Kassy Key: HipHop. After all, everyone loves a good beat they can shake their ass to. When it’s done right, it’s a game changer.
Q: Where would you most like to perform?
Kassy Key: I think I speak for myself and the Raindoggs when I say EUROPE TOUR ANYONE!? We would love the opportunity to travel overseas and show the world what we’ve got to offer.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Kassy Key: There are too many of these to list, but I immediately gravitate towards Amy Winehouse and Imelda May; 2 incredible women with voices you can’t duplicate. I love the sultry feel with a retro twist.
Do you have any gigs lined up or music to plug right now?
Kassy Key: I am excited about our 2 residencies here in Austin with both the Spiderhouse Ballroom and East Avenue Lounge. Two very different local spots with a lot of potential. With Spiderhouse we do a monthly Cabaret show (second Thursday of every month) with the amazing ladies of Frisky Business Burlesque, which incorporates live music with the art of burlesque and side shows. Our first gig at East Avenue Lounge is coming up on June 14 during the madness of ROT Rally (Republic of Texas Biker Rally) and that one should be hella fun. I love when ROT Rally comes every year because you can’t look around without seeing some killer choppers, and badass bikers. It’s awesome! We also just released our latest music video “TRAMP” featuring both the Jigglewatts Burlesque and Frisky Business. It was so much fun to make and we are proud of the outcome. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPprD87shzw&feature=share&list=PL661A48C049944799
Where would you like to see yourself and the band in 5 years?
Kassy Key: Honestly, I would love for us to grow collectively as a band and continue to make music that people enjoy as much as we do.
