Joji, the multi-talented visionary with a cult following from every corner of the internet, is back today with “SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK,” his first new song since May’s “YEAH RIGHT” single and the latest single from his forthcoming debut album BALLADS 1,
coming soon via 88rising.
Written by Joji and produced in collaboration with Chairlift’s Patrick Wimberly (production credits include Beyonce, Solange, MGMT, among others), “SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK” is Joji’s take on the ultimate power ballad / torch song. Performed for the first time in May 2018 at Blurry Visions festival in Oakland, CA, “SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK” is one of Joji’s most highly-anticipated releases to date, with bootleg copies from his performance of the song already garnering 500K views on YouTube and already inspiring covers and remakes on the platform. The track is being released in tandem with a music video directed by Jared Hogan, who previously directed the video for Joji’s “Demons”, which was awarded both a Vimeo ‘Staff Pick’ and a Nowness ‘Picks’ award, instantly garnering praise from the acclaimed Japanese visual artist Takashi Murakami.
A master of multiple mediums, Joji is the Osaka, Japan-born singer and producer capturing a following from every corner of the Internet. The multi-talented visionary defies convention — his songs are characterized by down tempo, melancholic themes and soulful vocals, layered over lush grimy textures, blending elements of trap, folk, electronic, and R&B. Featured everywhere from Nylon to Billboard to VICE News (HBO) to Hypebeast and beyond, Joji is one of the most interesting and promising new artists in the digital age.
“YEAH RIGHT,” released this past May was the first track off the forthcoming project, has already been streamed over 60 million times, offering an auspicious glimpse of what’s to come with BALLADS 1.
This Fall, Joji will be co-headlining the 88rising Head In The Clouds Festival in Los Angeles, CA and joining the rest of the 88rising crew across North America on the ’88 Degrees & Rising Tour’. Tickets for the tour can be purchased HERE.
