Jade Steel on Exposed Vocals!
Singer – Author Jade Steel for many years now has been entertaining audiences world wide with cutting edge rock music. Containing stories of subjects that range from high hopes to post apocalyptic warfares with heroes and villains. Stories that tell of world strife and his travels around the globe, and as of late a story revolving around a stone with a single green spot, a rare Green stone that makes up a powerful unique time travel device called, “The Rondo”.
As a successful performer and story teller, Jade was born in San Francisco after the summer of love to hippy revolutionary parents.
Fresh out of high school he first came into the public eye as a lead singer for a young punk band called Corrupted Youth.
After he become the lead singer for the Northern California Metal Band called “Cold Steel”.
During the creation of his first solo album, “Jade Steel”. The world renowned festival “Reggae on the River” was started in Jade’s hometown and allowed him to partake and become a part of many professional acts/artists while growing up, allowing him to be exposed and explore other genres of music such as rock and reggae.
Being an avid comic book collector since childhood and multi talented lyricist Jade was inspired by Marvel and DC illustrators.
He created many stories through songs. His album called Tales of the Rondo tells of a device that allows who ever would possess “The Rondo” to be able to travel through time and space.
With this multi faceted story and it’s strong hard rock sound tracks. An adventure is produced and arranged by long time friend and collaborator
Andre Jonson.
“Tales of the Rondo” is launched with an interesting host of entertaining characters from different planets through out the galaxy, such as
“The Great Mondo Kush”, “Ms Amerika”, “Ouids”, and “Dread Steel”. Many other amazing characters also help to make up a fun filled experience.
The live shows brings together the theatrics of the story, using elements of multimedia, body painting, dancing girls, strong music and a powerful band.
These days, Jade has been working on his next project album #5, new music videos, an illustrated comic and the first edition of the Tales of the Rondo story book trilogy.
In between he continues to perform and tour whenever possible.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Jade Steel : My first experience: My friends from school that were part of the school band had a punk rock group called “Corrupted Youth”. The singer was sick one day so I stepped in. A music teacher walked by and said, “He sounds better than the other guy. They asked, I accepted.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Jade Steel : After being the frontman for “Corrupted Youth”, band members changed. We started playing metal and became “Cold Steel”. Jade Steel stuck with me. It always fit.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Jade Steel : Sure, but to a certain extent. I think 1:30 is a great teaser….I do however have full files on Soundcloud..Most people are gonna rip it and put it up anyway…Let em have a taste.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Jade Steel : Make a great sounding record. Don’t skimp on it. Get a producers ears, another who isn’t married to the music. Don’t try to play every instrument because you can. Chemistry projects. Be competitive and go for it.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Jade Steel : Of course, everyone does and will.
It’s not how bad you mess up, its how quick you recover. It’s a show and being human is part of it. Just be good, most people won’t have a clue.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Jade Steel : (Laughing) yes we toured Germany, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Central and South America, Russia, and more…Indeed, there are some wild stories, but we all agree, that’s an entirely different interview…
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Jade Steel : I’m very lucky..I have a great relationship with my producer. I make notes on direction, themes, song titles and we move from there. It usually takes a few days to be secure with a song.I usually have an idea before we start. These days most of my inspiration comes from writing the “Tales of the Rondo” story..
