Issoufou Amadou – Leaving for today
There’s a dramatic intensity to this track that takes it from songwriting to cinema at times, which is great, it really maximises the feelings expressed within the lyrics and underlined consistently by the music. The mood of the whole piece has a very stylish kind of darkness. The production has presented the whole piece really cleverly, the samples and effects and the overall build up of the music keeps you captivated throughout. The leading vocal performance as well adds hugely to the intensity. The words alone are pretty intriguing and unpredictable, but the passion and character of the voice delivering them enhances that effect immensely.

There are a couple of different riffs featured throughout the backing track that really increase the personality of the piece and add to how memorable it all is. These are the first elements to make themselves familiar to you, but the more you hear the hook, the more that moment takes over as the key idea to remain with you after listening. The opening verse as well is possibly the most interesting, the story telling has this unapologetic realness to it that offers a unique perspective and a very genuine lyricist. The experiences of the story teller are personal, but the hook includes everyone, the concept is accessible, so you get a good balance between the new, the unexpected, and that which is relevant to yourself (as a listener).
Some of the lyrics are quite inspiring, particularly for those who are struggling or going through a difficult time. The darkness of the music in a way actually adds to the inspiration, rather than passing over to you a melancholy mood, it suggests enthusiasm and motivation. The intensity hopefully will drive people to work their way out of a bad situation.
