“an intense energy and rebellion about it” En tus ojos (Tu ya no me quieres más)
This is a really fresh bit of music, taking all the best parts of rock – the energy, the distortion, the freedom – and pairing it up with a memorably melodic vocal performance that later has a choir-like sound surrounding it. The whole thing is brilliantly performed and really well structured – the song develops and changes in a way that satisfies, and the volume and intensity of the music is equally satisfying at all times. You very quickly get lost in the energy and speed of the guitar sound and the drums, and similarly within the melodies that unfold throughout. The verses capture your attention, the pre-chorus, the chorus, later on the guitar solo, and finally the vocal moments of absolute freedom that are really just the cherry on top of the whole thing.
The song ended too quickly for me, but the recording length is perfect – it simply leaves you wanting a longer project to indulge in; an album, EP, or string of videos at the very least. The prospect of a live show is also hugely appealing. The fact that the song is not lyrically written in a language comprehend-able to me has never felt quite so irrelevant, though I’m keen to seek out a translation. What gets communicated by the music is that there’s an intense energy and rebellion about it all, there’s an angst about the instrumentation and the performance, but it doesn’t pass on to you as you listen – if anything, the music simply makes you feel great. The structure of the song is really impressive, there’s a theatrical nature to it that’s greatly effective, and the heavy energy of the piece fuses well with the catchy and memorable melodies and riffs that present themselves throughout. A strong piece of music, really well done.
