ImanuL – Roam Free “Lyrically the song is incredibly personal”
There’s something completely unpredictable about this single, and with that comes a refreshing air of newness and character.
There’s clearly a certain depth and emotional presence about the song, and this shows itself by means of the music, the passion in the leading vocal performance, and the lyrics that come through in the melodic later section of the song. Everything about the song has something unexpected to it though, so that depth hits in a way that you don’t necessarily anticipate. The soundscape itself has a brightness that seems reflective and even dreamlike, drawing from nature’s own ambiance somehow yet later fusing with those synth driven, slightly electronic vibes.
To listen to the opening few bars of music, the indie rock angle, the dreamlike riffs floating in the backdrop, you don’t expect the spoken word section that follows, and yet once it comes into play, you’re captivated by its presence and by the words expressed therein. Structurally as well, the song makes up its own rules entirely, or considers rules as unimportant in creativity, and rightfully so. The spoken word introduction sets a certain type of mood or scene, and the melodic section that follows directs you somewhere else. The faith element becomes more and more detectable as things progress.
The melodic vocal part actually has a soft rock sound to it that draws even from the likes of certain punk-pop bands from the early nineties. It’s an interesting fusion of elements, taking inspiration or influence from a number of different places, and ultimately really implanting those ideas in your mind as you listen. Lyrically the song is incredibly personal, it feels like a one on one conversation between the writer and the recipient, so to listen isn’t necessarily to feel involved in the sentiment. However, to witness it is to appreciate the love and dedication.
