‘I’m All Woman’ ~ Syteria “almighty leading vocals and unforgettable melodies”
This band have their musicality absolutely mastered. The opening few moments powerfully illustrate the skill with which they play, and the closeness between each element is highlighted in how smooth the rhythm and the leading riff come through, even with those pauses, those striking moments of stillness, and even when the pace and overall energy return to such a high level. That riff is huge, it sinks in the very second you hear it, and as the track progresses you become more and more in tune with the creative brightness of everything about it.
The drum line and the guitars have a deeply authentic rock sound to them, though the final polish on this song and that fact that the musicians involved are so closely connected means that the overall sound comes through as much cleaner than classic rock. You get the realness of the composition, but it’s not overcome by the crackle of a live performance. In terms of the songwriting, this mainstream or pop element comes through further as the leading melody steps up to the stage. Everything fits well within the setting, the short snippets of lyricism work well among the musical ambiance in the way that many classic rock crossover tracks from way back when did. Those vintage driving records that offer a collection of powerful rock tracks with almighty leading vocals and unforgettable melodies come to mind.
The rock element is kept alive at every moment, even as far as the slick guitar solo that slides into place during the latter half of the song. The song’s hook is the main thing you take away though, that repetition of the key line towards the end of the recording makes certain that you’ll remember it.
