“growing indie and post-alternative music scene.” Marios Papalexis ‘I See The Sun’
Lets start with the growing indie and post-alternative music scene in Athens, Greece. These days, if you can find a spot at the perpetually gridlocked bar, you’ll find that Pop still houses a range of great local D.J.’s playing everything from no-wave to British invasion to indie pop and offers some of the best (from what we hear) cocktails in the city. Artists like Marios Papalexis are revitalizing the entire Greek Music Scene with tracks like “I See The Sun” (Check it out up above) This is a sweet song and sung from the heart. With lyrics like:
” Every time I hear your voice around me / Every time I hear your name”
…I see the sun. It’s an amazing love story sung from an artist with an amazing voice. The track has top notch production quality as well. This is the type of track that you can close your eyes and just drift away to.
“I’m just a man who wants your love”
It’s his pain, his happiness. It’s all out there and it’s very vulnerable. This track spotlights something the soft-spoken artists have never been entirely comfortable with and Marios nails it! It’s a maturity and depth that takes most artists years to capture.
Thanks to international pop culture, Greek music is perceived abroad as somewhat of a folk cliché… Underneath the surface however, there is an active music scene expressed in distinctly Greek urban subcultures, and often collective and cross-platform, which reference charged national-historical times, folk traditions, and international trends, all under that blessed sun. I do, with this track, “See The Sun”
