This recording quite swiftly became probably the most famous Tennessee Whiskey cover of recent years, if not of all time. The reason for its success is clear, not only can the artist sing the track flawlessly, effortlessly, and with brilliant style, he’s also undoubtedly performing with absolute passion and genuine soul, and that’s something that can’t be faked no matter how hard you try. The hard working artists, the ones just below the radar, are often the ones with the most feeling behind their performances – life gets in and it gets to you, and to express that through music, through a song that so fully connects with you like this, is something ultimately very special.
The recording is a pleasure to listen to, and time and time again the enjoyment remains and perhaps even grows. The artist on occasion appears to lose himself entirely in the various moments of the song, and that alone is worth witnessing, it’s something that could bring a smile to even the unhappiest of faces. The song choice is important, there are so many great singers these days, but I think the fusion of this song and this particular singer has ignited a fire that just wouldn’t be possible elsewhere. It’s one of those rare moments when the chemistry is just right that you get something very pure and captivating.
It’s a captivating performance from start to finish, and it makes you want to sing along as all great performers may hope. It would be a pleasure to witness a live performance, in real time, and the prospect of future music from the artist is an exciting one. Hopefully there will also be some original songs to look forward to that will bring something completely fresh to the stage. The humble nature of the performer is an added blessing.
