Glo – Distraction “depth and emotion of the lyrics is perfect”
This is beautiful, the balance between the dreamlike aura of the music and the depth and emotion of the lyrics is perfect. The music alone is the sort that could make up the bulk of an ambient trip-hop album. On top of this though, there’s a distinct rise in intensity and passion that comes as the music gradually moves along. The leading vocal and the accompanying vocal parts drive this increasing energy flawlessly. That primary voice is stunning, floating fairly distantly within the mix, but not so much so that it doesn’t connect with its audience – you can hear every lyric, every moment of passion, and the melody is the sort that seems born to thrive in this particular setting.
As things progress, the utilisation of structure is all the more prominent. There’s a significant smoothness and thread throughout but there’s also that slowly evolving emotion and strength that sounds incredible as it fills the room and surrounds you. The song has been masterfully crafted and performed with a certain authenticity that means it reaches out for you despite being something undeniably personal to the songwriter.
The more you listen, the more those changing sections become familiar, and it settles in as a go-to song for music fans who seek that powerful escapism. The evolution is subtle, as suggested, but that simply means the strength is in the expression, the concept, the simple and effective awareness of what works in musical compositions and what is likely to intensely affect a listener and even give those all important shivers at the height of the sound. A live performance is likely to be something that mesmerises, leaving an audience in awe and silently lost in the experience. It’s a wonderful song, really reaching those emotional and deeply human peaks.
