Glasswater EP – Tila ‘Awake’
The song ‘Awake’ from Tila’s Glasswater EP presents audiences with an infectiously high-energy dance track that leans quite notably in the direction of creative experimentation as opposed to following the standard pathways of EDM. The scratch effect or the stop-start nature of the beat and the samples makes for a chaotic yet impeccably rhythmic and intense build up. The first few moments take you aback a little, this is far from an easy listening piece, far from the usual Sunday morning musical choice to ease you into consciousness. On the contrary, the song bursts into life immediately and fills the room with its manic and unpredictable energy.
The switch to the drop, the literal pop, as minimal a moment as it may be, is definitely one of the most enjoyable. There’s something refreshing about the crafting of this track, the uniquely creative way in which the whole thing has been crafted makes for something that draws very few, if any, comparisons as you listen. The originality comes with a stamp of identity and character, and that’s something that is likely to provide a signature trait for the artist as you become more and more familiar with their music. This piece alone makes certain you’ll recognise it again if ever it should come on in the background to your daily business.
The ability to create electronic music or just about any sort of music is readily available to most of us at home these days, the ability to make it unique is not always so easily accessed. It’s important to stand out and offers something new. Although the elements involved in making this aren’t undiscovered, the way in which they’ve been fused makes for something that does appear to be.
