Fly Away by Bogdanl review
Bogdanl is an EDM producer hailing from Poland and his music is what I would
categorize as commercial house in the style of producer/DJs like David Guetta and
Swedish House Mafia. What perhaps separates Bogdanl from his electronica/dance
contemporaries is that there is a musical sophistication present that is absent from
some of the most current EDM genres such as big room house which are often just a
beat and not a lot else.
This track, Fly Away, is an instrumental and immediately grabs the attention with a
catchy synth riff, a four to the floor beat getting the toe tapping instantly. The track
builds gradually, with interweaving synth melodies that are almost symphonic in their
complexity, especially around the two minute mark. All the melodies are strong and
work together well, which is vital for an instrumental to remain interesting for the
listener.
If there is one piece of constructive criticism I’d offer, I would suggest perhaps an
alternative club mix where the kick drum is more prominent as, in this mix, the
texture of the synths predominate to the point where it drowns out the kick a little,
which would reduce it’s effectiveness on the dancefloor. However, for simple musical
listening, this is perfectly mixed, and it is very common to have a different mix for the
clubs.
Overall, this is a well composed, programmed and produced piece of dance music that
is original enough to stand out from what is admittedly a highly saturated market. At
the same time, EDM has never been more popular and the most rich and successful
musicians in the world at the moment are superstar producer/DJs. With more tracks of
a similar calibre I think Bogdanl has a good chance of establishing himself as a big
name in the field.
