“a feeling of classic hip-hop and R&B is illuminated in this track” Rene – Changed
A nice feeling of classic hip-hop and R&B is illuminated in this track, amongst a fairly captivating snippet of real life inspiration in the introduction. The music has a peacefully ambient backdrop and essence to it, the sounds are mellow and trip-hop like, whereas the rap vocal on top of this seems a little more energetic and angsty. It’s an unusual combination, but unusual is always good, plus the mix is really well produced – everything sits well together.
The artist’s voice has a very unique sound to it, there’s a huge amount of character in the tone and the way the lines are presented and expressed, and that’s always a great thing; to have that personality in the sound, as well as the flow. There’s a hint of an Outkast influence in the flow actually, the classic albums from back in the day come to mind, the way the words all seem to be connected throughout the performance is not as rhythmic and disjointed as a lot of more modern rap vocals can be, so there’s value in the way that this appears as well. The track on the whole is one that you could easily have playing in the background to your every day life.
Many of the lyrics seemed to fly by faster than you could pick them up, particularly when the music creates such a calming and dreamlike atmosphere. There’s definitely something about the sound that stands out, it would be good to hear more music from the artist to get a better grasp of the ideas and the influences and what it is that he’s about
