Exposed Vocals sat down with Moah City and talked about his hit single ‘Welcome To My Jungle
Moah started singing at the age of 5 and has been a musician all his life. In 2008, he was first pulled into the complex world of rhythm and improvisation at the Montreal Jazz Festival. He fell in love with an instrument and its sound – He fell in love with the saxophone.
Four years later, he played for the first time at the Montreal Jazz Festival. This year, he is releasing his first solo EP entitled, “Taste“ Moah’s new EP is about his experiences as a 22-year old man growing in the city. “Taste” combines Cameroonian jazz rhythms with carefully crafted electronic arrangements. Moah’s saxophone melodies and vocals are fused with groovy baselines to create a unique sound that breaks the modern jazz mold. Moah aspires to blend the jazz influences of the 70s with today’s fresh electronic perspective. The sounds are as unique as his vision and cultural background.
For Moah, this album symbolizes a return to his roots.
Welcome To My Jungle
Moah is a 22 year old singer, songwriter and producer who writes songs in the pop, RnB and jazz genres. Despite his youth, he has already achieved a lot in the music industry. As an independent artist, he has already managed to play at the Montreal Jazz Festival along side Bob Dylan, King Crimson, Buddy Guy and a cast of thousands. This track, Welcome To My Jungle, is a great example of his songwriting and production. It’s a poignant Jazz ballad. Moah delivers a haunting vocal melody which is superbly sung. He has a smooth, clear voice that brings to mind Boyz II Men and is perfect for this kind of material.
Lyrically, it complements the tenderness of the music:
Welcome To My Jungle is a touching ballad that has been flawlessly performed and produced, and so is perfect to take to commercial radio. A definite star in the making. His music encompasses many genres including funk, soul and jazz. Welcome To My Jungle is a classy and sophisticated single, beautifully crafted, both lyrically and musically. It certainly rewards close listening and is highly enjoyable from start to finish. When much of mainstream music is seemingly more reductive and vulgar than ever before, it is gratifying to know there are artists still devoted to the art of songwriting and who have become highly accomplished at their craft.
Overall, this is a high class, truly innovative track that sets the bar for other artist/producers in his field. His sound is fresh and lets hope he will continue to grow as an artist, gaining a large, devoted following in time.
