Exposed Vocals just scored an exclusive interview with unsigned artist ‘LUI ‘
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
LUI :The music is in the family. When I was younger, my family back in Peru would sometimes meet up and gather around to play music. the crazy thing is they made music out of anything . My uncle was using two spoons and another would play like Box Cajon which is a wooden box while others would sing. It sound so good. Ive always messed with music in one way or another . I started with a guitar in 4th grade.I lived with my mom in Virginia. I created one song and I stopped. I never had the support from my parents to become an artist so I always did it for fun . In school i was in chorus. I had the solo lead. when I got to middle school, I loved poems and i was good at them. I really started focusing on lyrics. Middle of 7th grade, I went to live with my dad in New Jersey. I got more curious about music and how to make music without actually having a band. That took me to Hip Hop and Rap, and I’ve just been creating songs since then. Like I said i never really had the support from my parents to become a musician , so it wasn’t a dream for me.I just loved music and created as a hobby. At one point in the beginning 2017, I made a lot of good music ,and a lot of good feedback. I realized that I have the potential and that I was ready. Nobody said that winning is easy but its not impossible.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
LUI :My name is Luis lol and to be honest I took French class in 7th grade , I was actually in Wisconsin ( Thats a different story) and I had to pick a french name I found out there was a kind in France name King Lui and I chose Lui .
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
LUI : I think it’s a great resource to use. I do give away music for free. my music is Very influential. One day someone told me, “rather have 10 people listening to my music for free than 1 person buying it”. I agreed, I want my songs to benefit as many as possible.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
LUI : KEEP FOLLOWING YOUR DREAM , STAY STRONG AND DONT GIVE UP. WINNING IS NOT EASY.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
LUI : Mistakes happen . When it does, sometimes the audience don’t notice, so you continue with your performance confidently.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
LUI: Not yet. Soon .
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
LUI : Anywhere really . Sometimes I’m just in class and I zone out thinking of lyrics for a song.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
LUI :I do not have a website yet but you can find my music on Soundcloud. I got some music videos on youtube. I share my music on Facebook and Instagram. (@LuisHuarcayaHD)
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
LUI : I really don’t consider any to be embarrassing to be honest.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
LUI : Investments !
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
LUI : I Just released my EP so I’m working on Visuals for the project.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
LUI : I post on my social media mostly. I do network with some other artists as well.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
LUI : Michael Jackson . He was a huge influence to me . One of my Idles.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
LUI : Music Videos Coming soon for my EP “Thoughts in my head” .Get to Know what I Know .
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
LUI : Actually , at this moment I make music but I am a student and I also play soccer for my college.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
LUI : Wow , the first album I ever bought with my money was from Akon “Konvicted”
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
LUI : Time Management . Get organized . Its hard to handle your responsibilities when you are not organized.
