Exposed Vocals just sat down with ‘Skullkid’ for an exclusive Interview
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist? Â
Skullkid: The stories behind the whole idea of Skullkid and Rage are too long to write and so I am planning to talk about it in a video soon. But summing up a little, my name is Jefferson Costa, I am Brazilian and I was born in Rio de Janeiro. In 2013 something woke me an immense willingness to deal with music in 2014 asked my mother she gave me one Christmas present enrolls in a music production course as here are a pretty expensive. I have entered the course with the Skullkid design and even some tracks released (I blacked out because they were too bad, really). After that I met many people who helped me a lot on the internet as the Razor Dies, Ekilibria and ZIG, since it only has given increasingly right for both Skullkid as for Rage.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Skullkid: Â It was something totally random, at the beginning I wanted something to go with Skull. I passed by SKULLZ, Skullkiller, Skull and ReaperZ, but what was in the end was the Skullkid.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Skullkid: I have my music on all audio platforms, but do not make music for money, so everyone can find my music out there for free download. My goal with the music before the money is to make it be heard by the world.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Skullkid:Â A single tip and very effective: do not be shy on stage. You need to have stage presence, you can be a great DJ and producer or can be a great band, but you just do not do the public pay attention to you guys, you guys may not touch again in the same place. It was never easy to play with a mask in locaisa where people are not used to, but I have to play that way, then take the microphone, call the public, jump, interact the way as possible. Be the difference.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Skullkid: Â Oh, but of course, I remember only one time when I played a song on the deck which already had a song running and it became clear that I had screwed up lmfao.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about? Â
Skullkid: Â Unfortunately not yet. But maybe in a few months …
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process? Â
Skullkid: Â Currently I am inspired by artists that I hear a lot like Aero Chord, RL Grime, What So Not, NGHTMARE and Skrillex. But the inspiration for music came early when I heard Bob Sinclar, Tiesto and Daft Punk
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Skullkid: I do not have a website for Skullkid, but soon the Rage win your site will be an open door to many people (when launching you guys will understand what I mean).
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player? Â
Skullkid: Â A music shit posting mixing Bohemian Rhapsody Queen with All Star Smash Mouth and The Next Episode Snoop Doog & Dr Dre hahaha
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it? Â
Skullkid:  No doubt I would invest in something to learn more about music and obviously would an event with all members of Rage. It would be fucking incredibly…
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now? Â
Skullkid: I have 3 songs at the time production. Two collabs and a solo. Even this solo will be for an innovative album of a brazilian collective …
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Skullkid: Â YouTube and friends. Really, YouTube is a very good way to publicize any work, and combining it with good friends and that accompany and support your career becomes a great weapon in your favor.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why? Â
Skullkid: Maracanã stadium with Skrillex. For sure my biggest dream. Because when I started to make music was based on Skrillex sounds.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Skullkid:  Some especial changes in Rage… 2017 will be a fucking awesome year…
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing? Â
Skullkid:  Dead…Maybe…
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head? Â
Skullkid: It was the Demon Days of Gorillaz. I was happy as fuck because I love Gorillaz
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life? Â
Skullkid: To tell the truth is very difficult. Taking care of personal life and at the same time having to fully produce and take care of a label is not so simple. I usually let things go happening and will always fixing what needs to be repaired and has worked. My life became very agitated when I decided to create the “Rage”, but I do not regret any of it.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016? Â
Skullkid: Â Many surprises, seriously, a lot of surprises, enough surprises hahaha.
