Exposed Vocals just sat down to an interview with Scruffie & Lan’do
Scruffie & Lan’do are both brothers and are both emerging rappers from Toronto. They’ve been consistently making music for over a year and a half and released a new single called “Walk Through” produced by Kudzu. This track has a mix of a trap sound with a high octane beat, put together by a simple yet catchy piano melody. Scruffie is on the first verse and the hook and is full of energy with an aggressive flow. Lan’do is pretty much the same, except his he’s able to transition his flow from fast to slow with ease and make it sound fire. Stay tuned for new music, you can bet there’s more on it’s way. Be sure to follow Scruffie on Twitter & Instagram and his brother Lan’do on Twitter & Instagram and check out “Walk Through” below.
So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
We are brothers who grew up in Rexdale, which is a part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), in Canada. We both always had a passion for music, which was very indluential in our lives, however we decided to fully commit to music one day when we watched Straight Outta Compton and bought recording equiptment the next few days after.
Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
The best advice we could give, would be to present yourself in an interesting manner and have great energy. Also be prepared for rejection and keep pushing forward.
Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
(Scruffie Speaking) initially i used to forget some of my lyrics while performing, so to fix that, i started listening to my songs more as well as rehearse more before shows.
Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
We haven’t been performing for that long yet, so unfortunately we have not toured as yet.
Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
As far as upgrades are concerned, we’d probably just get a better laptop and a better mic. We likento keep it very simple and accessible, when it comes to our recording process and only have a mic, usb interface and laptop. We also do all our engineering by ourselves.
How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
We primarily use social media and blog sites to promote our music.
If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
(Scruffie): id love to perform with Travis Scott, because his shows are crazy and he has great energy on stage
(Lan’do): Tyler The Creater seems to have an intersting point of view and crazy energy on stage. Performing with him would be wild.
So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
We are currently working on visuals for our music. At the moment there are no plans for a project yet.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
(Lan’do) I almost went to university for theatre, so id probably be pursuing acting if i wasnt doing music.
(Scruffie) I’d be an animator.
What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Expect more songs and visuals in the future.
Any Shout-outs?
Artist: Shout out to Rexdale.
