Wil Fuller originally from Chicago, now living in Los Angeles is an American artist, writer, producer and composer signed to Run n Gun music. Wil began getting recognition internationally as an artist (Tha Vill) in the early 2000’s with songs like “Ride It”, “More Than Friends” and “Fiber Optic Love”. His professional film/tv credits began in 2008 with placements on MTV and his creation of the first ever Hip-Hop major network station ID west of the Mississippi for KTLA in Los Angeles. He’s since become a go to writer, producer and composer for studios, networks production companies and artists.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Wil: I grew up in Chicago. I started off as a dj for a friend and a cousin’s rap group. Soon after me and two of my brother’s decided to start our own group and that’s when my artist journey started.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Wil: Yes, be different. I know everyone says that but the industry is different now than when I started. You don’t need a major label to get gigs or airplay even. Build your fan base on social media by looking at yourself as a brand. Fans are also interested in your life and lifestyle as well as your music. It has to match lol
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Wil: When I was performing, I definitely made mistakes all the time. I would forget lyrics sometimes or say verses out of order. But keep going because most of the time only you will know unless you stop mid verse.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Wil: I performed once in San Antonio, TX at the Cow stadium to open for Slim Thug and a bunch of others. I had like 50 people there to see me but it felt like 1 person because the stadium is massive and I went on first so I felt like I was performing to myself lol But backstage was cool. I had my own room with everything I wanted on my rider.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Wil: I just upgraded my mac pro to a pretty fast imac, but I’m a Logic Pro X user. It’s my go to DAW
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Wil: There are a lot of independent services. I like Digiwax and a few others but to be honest the best way now is to use tiktok and have fans use your song with their vids.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Wil: I would love to perform with Michael Jackson. I would’ve loved to learn from him and all the tricks he has and did on stage to keep the crown engaged.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Wil: I mainly make music for tv/film now and working on a few cool projects that I can’t talk about yet. But one of my favs is Fast n Furious Spy Racers on Netflix. I co-wrote the theme song for it.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Wil: I’d probably be a firefighter.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Wil: Keep listening for my voice on your favourite TV show or movie.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
Wil: My wife, my Agency Run n Gun Music and Spirit Music Group. Ryan and Alex who helped me get to where I am in my music career today. And my fans who supported me this whole time.
