Exposed Vocals just sat down with ‘VOWED’ a 19 years old Parisian musician, producer and DJ
VOWED is a 19 years old Parisian musician, producer and DJ. Having played Guitar, Piano and Drums since the young age of 9 and picking up his first DAW in 2011, he has been honing his skills in electronic music production.
VOWED does not strive to make one specific genre of music, he states his music is about everything that sounds and feels good to the ear, and is dedicated to the development of his music through experimentation and association of genres.
Already supported by artists such as Absence, Tomsize, ESKEI 83, Levi & Suiss, Danny Darko, Steve Omen and more, VOWED has played clubs in Paris such as the VIRGO, the Brazil, Les Planches, Le Badaboum, Le Concorde Atlantique, the MyBoat, La Palmeraie, the Belushi’s and the Seven Spirits opening for Tomsize.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
VOWED: I grew up in Shanghai and Singapore for 12 years then came back to my homeland in Paris, France. I am now in University in Paris, and am building my music project, VOWED, in parallel. I had been playing instruments since a very young age, and it is through the discovery of electronic music that I decided to try a little more serious take on music production.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
VOWED: I am still working at it obviously, but networking works like a charm! Get out there, meet new people, talk about your passion and your work, lend a hand to people who need help on something, it will always end up coming back your way. Use the internet to your advantage as well, reach out to networks, channels, blogs & musicians as much as possible!
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
VOWED: Mistakes happen all the time, as a DJ during performances the only way to cope with these mistakes is to practice dealing with a mistake during a live set!
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
VOWED: As a matter of fact, I am working on a first proper music studio right now. I am currently working with KRK Rockit 6, Ableton Live 9 Suite, an AKAI MPK25 keyboard and a RODE NT1A microphone that I use for recording guitar & voice.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
VOWED: I always try using the internet to its full potential. As I mentioned earlier, networking is a key to promoting your music, in consequence, get to know people who will help you and who you can help out too.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
VOWED: I would choose Red Rocks Amphitheatre with Flux Pavilion. I love the setting of the venue, and Flux Pavilion has been an amazing influence in my music, I definitely look up to him.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
VOWED: I really don’t have a clue. I would probably be working on graphics, creation is a necessity for me.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
VOWED: A lot of releases, I am really working on building my project independently, and truly believe that consistency is the way to go!
