Exposed Vocals just sat down with Founder and CEO of Dark Mafia Entertainment, J. Asadi
Founder and CEO of Dark Mafia Entertainment, J. Asadi has spent the past year growing his name and reach. With his fan base increasing with every passing second, he’s sure his new album Lazarus Experiment will reach its highest potential.
It wasn’t always the best of times for J. Asadi. His upbringing was far from perfect, but in hindsight, it put him where he is today. Growing up in an abusive environment took him to a dark place as he listened to the likes of Tupac and DMX. He notes, “I connect to darker sounding music because I am a dark artist. If you ain’t lived through nothing, then don’t turn my music on. It will be too hard for you, so stick to the bubblegum rappers because you won’t find one here.”
Far from the rappers one hears singing the hook on a Top 40 song pimped by Ryan Seacrest, J. Asadi does things his way and because of that has created his own style that strays from his happy go lucky peers. Songs like “Undefeated (Holy War)” and “Never Fall” are all about what he’s faced and how he continues to find it within himself to keep striving, surviving, and thriving. As for his lead single, “Sky’s the Limit” he notes its significance saying, “It is my declaration, and my motivation to keep grinding while encouraging others to get it how they live too.”
Each song represents J. Asadi and his latest, Lazarus Experiment. As an artist and CEO, he’s established himself as one of the brightest rappers in the game today. Having garnered recognition, the talented rapper is set to break a multitude of records with his new album Lazarus Experiment. The album is a fully embellished production that dives deep into J. Asadi’s life experiences with high-quality lyrics, captivating flow, and an exquisite sound.
With a dark approach to the rap realm, J. Asadi has stood out not only in song but live. He has performed throughout the east coast and Midwest, as well as in Okinawa, Japan when he was stationed there as part of the US Marines. Now he’s focusing on adding more cities to his list as he grows his reach, awareness, and label, Dark Mafia Entertainment, LLC.
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I was born in Maryland, Prince George County, Andrews Air Force Base. Grew up in New Castle, Pa but have lived all over and got introduced to different types of people from being in the US Marine Corps. Music was something I got introduced too while in Japan, my right hand was from Louisiana, and he was a rapper by the name of Lil Ed. Got me rapping but ain’t focus on it until I grew frustrated with not hearing songs I like.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Just network and be consistent, only thing standing in your way is you.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
I have messed up, I just keep going, when you into into the music and people with you, they are going to support you regardless.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Still waiting to go…
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
I got a new engineer I am working with, my boy Frito, he an Army Veteran, after serving in Iraq, he graduated from Full Sail so got my spirit sounding nice on the tracks
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Just use freelancers, friends, DJ’s, myself, anything, hustling is hustling, don’t matter the form or fashion
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
That’s a deep question and a hard one too. If I could perform with any artists, I would have to start off with the Roots, just because of how they killed it on Jay-Z’s unplugged album (Classic album, in my opinion) and I know they would have my music sounding crazy as far as a live performance goes. I would have my boy MStacks be the DJ, that’s my dawg right there, and anybody who was on my album. I would perform at the Super Bowl, only because I feel that is one of the highlights of any artists career.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
“I Want Blood” which I worked with MStacks, and I have my song “Down 4 U” which is a club song dropping this week as well. It features my girl, Martisse, who has a podcast called the “The Pop-Off” which I co-host on and debut music.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
To be honest, I don’t know, I am currently filming a movie in Pittsburgh, got 2 of my songs featured in that as well, so I probably would be doing some form of entertainment.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Just a lot more J. Asadi and good music.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
Shout-out to my Auntie Ruth, she is battling Pancreatic Cancer and has been an positive influence in my life. My girl Martisse, she been holding it down while I been chasing this dream. The people who believed in me, they know who they are, all the support and love, goes without measure. Been a struggle, seen a lot of things, lived through a lot of things, but good people will see you through.
