Exclusive Interview
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in the Netherlands to Ghanaian parents. In the city of Delft. My parents were next to their fulltime jobs always involved in promoting African culture by ways of food. Music and more. My dad was a co-organizer of African Festival. Which was the Netherland’s prominent African festival at the time. Here is where my connection with live music started to grow. Both of my sisters are quiet music. I started dancing at young age, so the crossover to music was not that big. Where I ‘really’ started to sing was in church. I was the vocalist of a Gospel Hip Hop group.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Be prepared to perform for free if it means reaching the audience that you want to reach. Also don’t be afraid to network and build a sincere relationship with people in media. Feel free to ask DJ’s and presenters their take on your music. Let them know you are serious. Your likeable personality will invite people to promote your art.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Yes I do. I can forget a verse. But luckily I can freestyle and tend to b e surrounded with musicians that are also goo din freestyling. So we always flip the song to be an original.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
I will soon be back in my country Ghana for a mini tour. The love there is big and I plan to do another showcase there and perform songs from my newest EP. I was on a vacation earlier last year and didn’t even plan to do sing and a The Shop Accra put me on the spot for an acoustic showcase. I was so ready for that.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
I have gained contacts In the media through my work and performing over the years. I make sure my network shares my music on their social media and friends and family. I also have a team of bloggers who I work with.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
I would perform in a sold-out arena with Lauryn Hill in South Africa. Because she is to me one of the best performers out there. She is so versatile and really gifted. I would also love to perform with Mali Music. I believe we would vibe very well. I also wold perform with Okyeame Kwame. I feel like he could perform anything.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
I am working on my EP now. Which is set to come out in May 2019. It’s called ‘rooted’.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t making music I would be a DJ by night and a hairdresser by day.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
First things first, I want to share my God-given gift with the world and share the message of God’s love to anybody.
