EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
My name is Lava Guurl. I grew up in Los Angeles, CA. Music has always been a part of my life. I have been doing hip hop dance since I was little. Growing up my little brother and I would make parody songs, which were actually pretty good lol. I didn’t take music serious until about 7 years ago.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Fiverr.com is great for all small bands, small business everything. But what I would say is just having a social media presence is a great way to go. Utilize those hash tags, like and comment on people’s posts as well. To get gigs I would see other artist posting their showcase flyer, I would hit up the person throwing the showcase.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Yes, I have a habit of dancing too much while performing. Tires me out faster lol. I just am feeling my music that much!
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
I went on a mini tour. Did a show in Vegas. The person throwing the tour was punched in the face while drunk, so he got on the mic crying…hilarious lol
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
The Shark Tank which is run by Shark Boy Grind (@ikeepgrinding) is my home studio. I record myself on Pro Tools 10 with a Blu mic. I love the equipment I have, definitely love upgrades though.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
I promote on Instagram and Facebook. I pay for the ads. It’s totally worth it when you want to build your fan base in other places.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
I would want to perform with Rihanna. She looks like she has so much fun on stage, I love her energy.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Well, I just dropped Pack Queen back in February. I’m pushing that tough; I got some music videos that will be dropping next month for the sake of 4/20!
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
I would probably be doing graphics, building websites. I wear many hats
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
More music videos, shows and of course another project!
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
Shout to Shark Boy Grind, Ralo Stylez, Erica D Hayes, Reef, Muse 1, RT Coldy, OTS and my best friend who is super popping with the music right now, Kemadonna
