Exposed Vocals just sat down with Atlanta artist ‘Goldberg’ for an exclusive interview
He began his singing career with the Atlanta Young Singers , in Atlanta, Georgia, a world renowned children’s choir, at the age of 11. He begged his parents to let him join, motivated, at the time, by the fact it would allow him to step out on the grass of Turner Field, the former home of the Atlanta Braves, the baseball team he grew up loving from a young age. Knowing he had the opportunity to sing the national anthem in front of thousands of people on the same field as the team gave him the drive he needed. The more he learned, the more motivated he became. With a fiery passion, and determined spirit, Goldberg continued to work towards his dream of being a lead singer.
Utilizing a variety of musical influences, ranging from Soul to Hip-Hop, Goldberg artfully crafts relatable tunes that uniquely express the human condition. A sound that has been described by some, as “Electric Soul.” Teamed up with a stellar group of musicians (Jonny Trumpet, Mikey Phatz, and Nadir Baaset) as well as audio engineer Justin Daniel, and world class producer Another Monster. They have produced a sound that is both natural, and electronic which comes together in a unique and refreshing way, giving Goldberg the perfect melodic canvas to paint on with his raw, sometimes sweet sounding voice.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in Decatur Georgia a small town just outside of Atlanta. Music has always been a huge part of my life, but if I had to blame my decision on one key factor, it would be my dad. He has always been playing in bands and writing music for as long as I can remember. More than once as a child I would sit and listen to him play drums to the jazz greats until I passed out.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Music first, then promo, then shows. Too many times I have seen artists play shows before they have their material ready or have anything recorded. I think that is definitely a mistake. In today’s world you do not make a living off of shows until you can convince the venue you can bring a decent sized audience. Only way to truly make money on the road is to have plenty of merch to sale as well. If these things are not taken care of, then be patient it takes time.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Absolutely, we are all human, so mistakes are inevitable. When you do make a mistake, I think it is important to keep going and make people laugh at it with you if they catch it.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
I will be soon, I have been on tour with other artists though and every time I go out on the road I have a blast, so it is hard to pick one. I would say make sure to follow my social media pages for the stories that are to come.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
No, I love the people I am currently working with. Justin Daniel the engineer for this project has been so patient and willing to work, no matter what craziness we decide to throw his way. His studio is fantastic, he has a lot of really good equipment and the sound is great. But the atmosphere is so comfortable and relaxed that I feel like I can attack the vocals like nobody’s watching.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
I am constantly sending emails to bloggers, radio stations, labels and I currently have 3 music videos which really helps. Because I promote those on youtube, and it gives you more avenues to promote with different platforms. Plus there’s that whole seeing is believing thing. More than anything it helps that I have thick skin and an unstoppable drive.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
That’s a tough one, hmm… My dream would be to play a show at the Fox theatre here in Atlanta with Ray Charles. Because I went to the Fox a lot as kid and I would constantly say to myself, one day I will headline a show at the Fox. I chose Ray because he was one of my first influences in music and come on it’s Ray Charles!
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Yes, I have my Debut Album ‘Electric Soul’ coming out in about a month, month and half depending on how production goes for the last finishing touches and mastering. I am sooooooooo excited to get it out to the world, I have put my all into it and so has everyone involved. We really wanted this to be a true album experience, something that takes the listener on an emotional ride and something that appeals to the eclectic audience we are today. You can check out 3 of the tracks from the album available now and let me know how I am doing so far. But I truly believe in my heart, that we have something very special for all of you.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
I would still be in the entertainment business in one facet or another. I love bringing emotions out of people and being a part of making life more enjoyable. But if I had to choose a specific avenue, I would say film.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
A lot of shows. My plan is to hit the road hardcore as soon as we release the album, if you’d like to see me in your city please don’t hesitate to send me a message on social media and we will try our best to make it your way.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
Absolutely! Big shouts out to Jonny Trumpet the trumpet player for the whole album. Another Monster our producer for most of the tracks on the album. Mikey Phats for his production as well as his various instrumentations, Nadir Baaset for producing a few tracks and playing some drums for us. Venerate Studios for working so hard with us and making sure we sound good. Thank you to all of the people who have been involved in helping make this possible. And thank you to everyone who supports indie artists, especially Exposed Vocals, for providing quality professional reviews and interviews.
