Exposed Vocals just interviewed Tmoney
My name is Terrance Pinkston stage name “Tmoney” im from Toledo, Ohio and im 23 years old. I have been doing music for 7 years but just recently started taking it serious about 2 years ago. I have since been trying to take my music to the next level and get my music heard.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist? Well i grew up in Toledo, Ohio and i always had a passion for music went and bought me a microphone one day learned how to use this recording software and it all started there.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it? I actually came up with my name because one of my sisters used to date a guy and he would always call my nephew and I nicknames, just random nicknames and one day i came home from work and he was like “wassup Tmoney” and at first i thought nothing of it but i actually didn’t have a stage name yet and eventually it just grew on me thus creating Tmoney.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why? I have given away every single iv’e done to this day for free i have put songs on my reverbnation account for like $1.00 but none of it has ever sold and i just recently back in April put a song on Itunes, Spotify, etc… and it sold one copy from a friend lol. I gave it away for free just because i was aware of the small fan base i have and was aware of not making any money off of it at least not yet anyway.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips? I mean the most advice i could give someone artist to artist even though im not like a household name or anything like that is just to remain consistent and patient i feel those are the two key things that will get you far.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that? Yes, lol i have made mistakes quite a few times at some performances i had. You pretty much handle it the best way you can all artist are different so they’ll have a different comfort level on doing things. Me personally i dance and interact with the crowd and talk to them so they usually can’t notice the mistake and if they do it isn’t that big of a deal because their still being entertained.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?I have not been on tour before but would like to in the near future or as soon as possible.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process? A lot of my music comes from things that have happened in my life like debt (money problems) struggles with life, love. Other inspiration comes from majority of the kind of music people want to hear something someone can dance to or vibe to. How i usually start off a song or anything for that matter is i find a beat i can really connect with and i just let my mind wander and whatever vibe the beat gives off is how i write to it.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music? I do have wix website set up. I use just about everything i can find such as; soundcloud, reverbnation, facebook, youtube, audiomack, spinrilla, datpiff, instagram.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player? i would say there aren’t any because if they’re on their then nine times out of ten it’s because i liked them lol.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it? I would definitely invest majority of it into my music career and then probably move to somewhere nicer pay off my debt and then help out a few family members.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now? Yes, I plan on upgrading my studio all the time because at the moment i don’t really have one but i know how to make it sound as if i did. As of right now it’s all produced right out of my closet with an expensive microphone and hung up clothes as my echo catchers.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you? I promote my music through pretty much all the social media networks that everyone uses. I will tweet out something or post it somewhere i also have paid for promotion quite a few times before like internet radio play, online twitter blasts, things like that. The thing that works best i would have to say is is Twitter and Soundcloud.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why? That’s a pretty hard question lol but as far as where i want to perform everywhere no specific place in mind if fans want to hear me there then that’s where im going. As far as with whom artist, i would like to work with every artist no direct preference i would have loved to do a song with Lil ‘ Snupe before he died though R.I.P.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about? I have somethings coming up that im trying to do like an E.P my first ever music video. I plan on doing a lot of music videos.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing? Honestly if i didn’t have such a huge passion for music i’d probably just stayed in school and went on to college like everyone else in the world. Sounds pretty boring though if you ask me lol.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head? I actually have yet to create an album or ever purchase 1 everything i listen to is usually digitally.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life? It gets pretty rough especially when i have like a performance due the day i have to work so i have to call off and take a point. Ugh yea that really sucks but once i can make a living off my passion it will all be well worth it.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016? Well 2016 is almost coming to an end but i but i will say by the beginning of next year 2017 or the middle fans should look forward to way more exposure of me such as tons of music videos put on youtube of course more promotions and more shows. Also just met a few people who want to set up a group and start doing shows together and things of that nature so by the end of 2016 going on to 2017 more people will know Tmoney.
