Exposed Vocals just interviewed Jimmy Elliott – a singer-songwriter from Oklahoma City
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in South Florida in the 90’s listening to everything from Snoop Dog to Bon Jovi lol. I picked up a guitar around the time of the big acoustic boom. DMB, goo goo dolls, matchbox 20 ect were all over the radio and I absolutely fell in love with the guitar and songwriting, I started writing songs almost immediately and haven’t stopped since. It’s a great escape for me and would be doing it whether anyone was listening or not, must of the time they’re not anyway lol
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Search, search, search, someone is always willing to listen and find new talent. I always recommend open mic nights for singer-songwriters to get started but if you have an album finished, shop that around to get the better gigs.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Yes, usually vocally lol. bad notes can happen, I just play through and make sure the rest of the performance shines. But if you put in the work you can limit those.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Yes. People always yelling Freebird (if your reading this you might be one of them)
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
I have a local studio I go to for recording, They are Pro Tools freaks.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Any Social media outlet can be a positive. YouTube works for me
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
I’m a big fan of Mat Kearney. Most people have probably never heard of him, but he’s a great songwriter and you can tell he’s in it for the music
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
I released my EP The Jimmy Elliott Project in August of 2017 that has 6 tracks on it, and now it’s on to the full length album
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
What I do now, which is volunteer with the youth at my church
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
The full length album! But please enjoy the EP that’s out now and come see me at a show
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
My brother Aaron Snow, he’s always been a believer and a supporter and a great writer himself
