Exposed Vocals just interviewed Franky Dee, Brooklyn born musician talks about his work with Fred Durst and more!
EV: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
FD: I heard about Exposed Vocals on Twitter. I saw the way they were promoting
Artists so I thought I would give it a try.
EV: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
FD: I was born in Brooklyn NY. I have been singing all my life.
While in New York I played in Bands with Vito Bratta from White Lion
and Ted Poley from Danger Danger. We were all friends and played along side Local Legends Twisted Sister and Zebra,to name a few.
Then I spent a few years rockin’ in Florida, where I made a My First CD and Video. My Management Book a six month tour opening for Iron Maiden in England. I also got a chance to open for Night Ranger and Blue Oyster Cult and many other National Acts here in the States.
I am now living in L.A. I just released my 2nd CD
entitled ‘If I Had A Fortune’.
I had some help from my friends
Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit who did a Killer Rap on my song ‘Sexy Dancer’ and
Robert Sarzo, from the band Hurricane, Brother of Rudy Sarzo ( Whitesnake, Dio, Quiet Riot ) who played a Great Lead Solo on my cover of Journey’s ‘Anyway You Want It’. I am now working on my Third CD and will have lots of Special guests on this one too.
I am Also Planning a West Coast Tour next Summer…
I have been getting Great Reviews and Airplay Worldwide and would like to thank all those who have supported me.
EV: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
FD: I think online sharing is a good thing. Especially for the unsigned artist. It’s a great way of getting there music out there, on there own, using internet websites, Exposed Vocals, youtube,FaceBook etc..
EV: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
FD: Bands should play as many venues as possible to get that LIVE experience. Learn how to write a great song. Get as much exposure on the internet as you can, and from what I see of Exposed Vocals, they seem to have a few different ways of promoting artists, so I will recommend they join up and start getting the exposure they want and need right away.
EV: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
FD: I have toured a few times in Europe and the States.
Meet lots of great people. But I haven’t met my hero Steve Perry.
Hopefully one of these days. Lol
EV: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
FD: Songwriting Inspiration can come from anywhere, while driving down the road, while on vacation, while on tour, even while sleeping.
Sometimes the words com first, or sometimes the music comes first.
I am lucky that I play, Guitar, bass, keys, and drums, so I can lay down
Most of the track in preproduction. I also carry a voice recorder with me in case inspiration comes at a time when I can’t get to the studio, I can just sing into the voice recorder.
EV: Do you have a band website? Do you have a Facebook or Twitter? Do you use Bandcamp, Spotify, ExposedVocals or SoundCloud to share your music?
FD: If anyone would like to get in touch with me or download or buy any of my music, people can go to these sites, Exposed Vocals, CDbaby.com/cd/FrankyDee2, Facebook.com/FrankyDee2, Facebook.com/FrankyDeeRocks, and iTunes.
EV: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
FD: Funny you should ask that cause the title of my latest CD is ‘If I Had A Fortune’. Well if I had a half a million dollars I would still be writing songs and going on tour but I would give the money I made to charity. You just can’t stop doing what you do cause you come into money. I do music cause it’s my passion. I would enjoy giving the money away to people I can help.
EV: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
FD: I think I mentioned him earlier,Steve Perry.
To Me,he IS the BEST singer ever.
I always had dreams of singing a duet with him…Maybe someday..
EV: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
FD: Well I do have plans on releasing another CD buy the spring.
I have been doing more covers than originals lately. I seem to get a lot of
Response from the cover songs. Guess it’s cause people already know them.
I like doing them. When I have enough I might just put out a CD of cover songs.
EV: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
FD: If I wasn’t making music I would still be involved with music somehow.
Probably teaching or producing. I have been doing music since I was very young so I really don’t do anything else.
EV: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
FD: It was (can you guess) Journey Infinity
I was really fascinated with his voice, and still am.
Are you tired of me talking about Steve? Lol
EV: What should fans look forward too for the rest of 2015 and beyond?
FD: First I would like to thank Exposed Vocals for this opportunity to talk to the fans… Like I said earlier I am doing more recordings and I will be posting them soon. I will also be touring soon and will post dates as they come in.
I would also like to thank all the fans that have supported me through the years…See you on the road…Thanks Everyone…Franky Dee
