Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
J-von: I was born in Evansville Indiana at St Marys on Nov. 28,1995 I’m the oldest out of my Lil brother and sister, but as soon as I was born me,my mom and dad moved to Niagara Falls New York where I lived there for about 8 years then we moved back to Evansville, growing up I loved music all kinds of music I just couldn’t get enough of it..soon my mom and dad split and it opened my eyes to how distant my family really was it tore me apart still does,I know there are millions of kids and teen who feel lost and alone and hurt so I decided to become a musician to change people’s out view on the world and themselves in the process.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
J-von: my rapper name J-von comes from my real name ” Jason Javon Scott”.My Inspiration for the name came from the hands of my big step brother because his actually first name is jayvon,when I was little I loved and looked up to him,which help me pick my name a lot easier.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
J-von: I think sharing music online is a good way to get your music out there into the world because the internet is everything nowadays people all around the world can listen to it I make my music on my own because I could not find anybody consistent enough to make it with me and I never give my music away for free I never even asked anybody to pay for it because at the end of the day me and my city are a team and what I have they have.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips.
J-von: the best advice I can give newcomers to music is to be yourself and be genuine and be completely honest in all your music no matter what kind of music you do because nothing sales more than being original and being yourself.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
J-von: I haven’t had any big performances but I rapped at my cousin’s birthday party and a few other parties before and of course I messed up and because everybody messes up their first time but I quickly cleaned it up by mixing and matching words together to make it sound good,and save myself from embarrassment any help me learn to be quick on my toes and witty with my words.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about.
J-von: I would love to go on tour someday but for now I have been on any tours.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
J-von: my inspiration for songwriting is helping my family come closer together and helping them be happy together my inspiration also comes from the city because of their depression and constant struggle they have to go through everyday, my usual songwriting process is writing in my composition notebook listening to a beat and writing down my thoughts basically venting on paper
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
J-von: I’m a solo artist so I don’t have a band and the online platform that I use for my music is SoundCloud you can find my SoundCloud by looking up J-von O’Dell or I have a second SoundCloud under the name Jvon.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
 J-von: well I didn’t expect this question I have a lot of weird music just off the fact that I love music in general but probably find some Katy Perry or Justin Bieber or even Britney Spears,backstreet boys or owl-city.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
J-von: if I were given a half a million dollars in a year off I will spend time in the studio working on a mixtape or album and I will spend it gracefully with my family because they deserve a long vacation.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
J-von: well I got some top-secret mixtape things going on and with this new job that I just got it’s going to help me with the studio and what I’m working with now is not the greatest equipment but it gets the job done.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
J-von: whenever I make a new song always promote my music on SoundCloud and I share it on Facebook and Twitter because of the number of people who be on both web sites.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
J-von: if I could perform anywhere it would be in the gardens and I will perform with Tupac and Eminem because these are the people who showed me that even though that you have nothing you can still become something in life if you set your mind to it and try hard and believe in yourself.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
J-von: I touched a little of my mixtape earlier and I don’t want to say too much about it but I can tell you that the name is called “do what you hear” coming out sometime this fall.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
J-von: if I wasn’t making music I will probably be in college working on art or trying to be a mechanic.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
J-von: I remember buying my first album my first album was the blueprint and the only thing was going through my head at the time was Jay-Z is pure genius.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
J-von: it’s hard separating your personal life and your music life sometimes but when you find the right coexistence in yourself anything is possible and for me it’s pretty easy I Stay Focus stay consistent and stay ready at all times for anything that is going to come my way because I know life is precious and they can be ended in the second my music is driven by my life if I didn’t go out there and live I wouldn’t have any music to make.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
J-von: in the next year or so they should be looking for a whole lot of surprises form the one called J-von.
