Exposed Vocals Just caught an exclusive with J.Chrome
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
J.Chrome: Well when i was a little kid maybe around 5 I was always into music and iv’e been writing songs ever since. I grew up in Nassau County but I now live in Suffolk County. I’ve always been into music because my dad is a reggae artist but i just like writing and rapping its a hobby that i can make other people happy with and as an extra get money from it.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
J.Chrome: So when GTA V came out i would play with my friends and i would always make my cars chrome so they called me chrome and i thought it was a cool name so i put the first letter of my first name with it and came up with J.Chrome. So it was from friends messing around to becoming my stage name and its just stuck with me for all these years.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
J.Chrome: In my opinion, I think that online music sharing is great for exposure and you can gain fans from all over the world and especially if its free then more people would be able to listen to my music, so yes i give my music away for free. Now that there’s all these different social media’s you can post on I think its a good idea to put it out online because more people are online and there’s more of a chance i would be discovered online then giving someone a cd.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
J.Chrome: Stay the same way you were before all the recognition you get no matter what happens, never get carried away. Performing in front of crowds is a big thing even if it’s a small crowd its still a great experience to have so you can know what to do when you have bigger and bigger shows to do.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
J.Chrome: Everybody makes mistakes no matter what it is and who it is there’s at least one thing they could’ve done better during a performance. Sometimes if I mess up a word or two I would just pretend nothing happened and would keep going on going with the song or I’d pump up the crowd so they can get hype for when the song starts.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
J.Chrome: No I have never toured but I do believe soon if i get more out there then hopefully I will.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
J.Chrome: Usually if something happened to me that minute I would think of some lyrics and jot it down on either my notebook or my note app on my phone. When i have a some lyrics I’d just keep going with it and turn those few lyrics into a full song that I can one day record or I freestyle and record it and rewrite what i said.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
J.Chrome: I actually don’t but I will soon. I post my music links which is soundcloud on my instagram, twitter, facebook, snapchat, ect. and people just see it and some people would message me what they think.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
J.Chrome: Nothing, if my song doesn’t sound good like the lyrics ill delete it and rerecord with a couple of different lyrics that flow better.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
J.Chrome: First things first I would put half of it away for any particular payments that are due and some money for supporting a family in the future. I would buy myself and some of my family things they have always wanted that’s not too much to help them get, and then i also have college to pay for so that’s another ten’s of thousands of dollars i would put away, and I would also give back to the community and fans who supported me and helped me get that money. I would never take a year off by choice unless I’m forced too.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
J.Chrome: Yea I hope to own a professional studio one day and make the best sounding music I can. Right now I’m either recording at friends houses with a little studio or my basement just using my laptop, speakers, and a mic.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
J.Chrome: For me I have friends that just tell people they know to tell people that they know about me and too look up my social media accounts, and for me anything that will get my name out and music out is good to me.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
J.Chrome: Honestly I have no clue who i would want to perform with because I like most artists out there and look up too a few who inspired me too try and become more successful with my music. I think I would like to perform in NYC because it’s my home state and I think it would be great exposure for me.
Exposed Vocals: So, whats next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
J.Chrome: As a matter of fact I do actually have a album that should be coming out soon hopefully I will get lots of recognition from it but who know’s maybe i’ll be the next big thing, never know until it come’s to you.
Exposed Vocals: If you werent making music, what would you be doing?
J.Chrome: I actually want to become a sports marketing manager and level up through the different higher positions of a team and then to becoming an owner of an NBA team to be completely honest.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
J.Chrome: I think it might’ve sean paul’s album from early 2000’s but i’m not sure if that is. I was that kid who saved his money for big thing’s i wanted and couldn’t get so i didn’t really buy albums and now i don’t because i can just go online and play them.
