Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in a veeery small Finnish town called Somero, the kind of a small town from the Stephen King novels. You’ll likely be bored a lot so you’ll either end up doing something productive with your free time or drinking, fighting and fucking til the morning light. I ended up choosing the former, singing in my car for very long periods of time in the middle of the night. I’ve always been a very intense learner, and nothing sums that intensity up as much as my practice singing sessions.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Collaborate a lot! I feel like a lot of beginning artists (especially in the rock realm) are afraid of collaborating, yet that’s a magical secret weapon with basically just upsides to it. Another tip is to be assertive about your goals, bravely contacting people whenever you feel the urge to… One thing I’ve learned over the years is that people rarely bite if you ask sincerely enough.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
I’m sure everyone – save for maybe demigod-like virtuosos like Shawn Lane – does mistakes at some point in their career. I try to keep going or even make them part of the performance… Entertainment over everything else.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
I’m not touring…Yet. I will eventually, however, and that’ll be memorable, I promise.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
I currently use my trusty Rode NT3 for the majority of the vocal recordings, occasionally booking studio time when it’s necessary. It’s quite a small DIY setup but I like it like that: not too much luxury, the more effort on the musical quality in itself. With that said, I’m planning to upgrade my setup to something better at some point, once the inspiration for that hits.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
I’ve been sending emails frequently, sometimes for even 6 to 8 hours if necessary. On top of that, I like to find interesting niche ways of marketing plus partners to collaborate with. The beginning is always the hardest…
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Ugh, soooo many… Maybe with Marilyn Manson for the entertainment factor, I can imagine ”The Beautiful People” being a fun live belter.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
I’m currently working on my second album! Boy, I’m excited for this one. There’ll be familiar elements from the first release, yet the production will be way more polished and energetic. I’m also bringing in more guitars and hip hop elements so watch out!
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Studying criminal minds… Maybe robbing a bank.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
A lot more content plus the gradual unfolding of my crazy character hahaha!
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
Shout-outs to The Cheddar Cat and my other uni buddies for always being so much fun. Shout-out to the Holland & Barrett cornershop underneath my apartment for having the best protein bars.
