Exposed Vocals just caught an exclusive interview with ‘Jackmanraps’
Jackmanraps is a 19 year old born and raised in Flint, Michigan. His witty metaphors, god like flow, and lyrical stamina stands him out from the others in the Flint music scene. His debut project “Lysergic Thoughts” drops this winter!
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan. Growing up in Flint had a lot to do with me becoming an artist, there’s so much culture in Flint but the city is never looked at for the art it has to offer. I always knew i wanted to do something for the city.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Now adays its all about who you know. Networking is the key when looking to move forward. Invest your time getting to know promoters in your city, also get to know your peer local artist.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
My shows are so damn crazy even if i mess up the energy is too high for anyone to care. However, put in enough time during rehearsal so you don’t mess up, also show up to the sound check so you know you’re ready to go.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
I’ve been apart of Zehero’s Cake Fiend Tour, and apart of Flint’s UTU tour which is headed to Connecticut soon. It’s cool to get out of your home town and see that you have fans outside of your city. I remember on the Cake Fiend tour we went to Central Michigan University and LK Tonio was rocking out so hard we got fined $200!
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
I’m working with my engineer Marc Dee. We’re constantly finding new ways to make our sound best as possible.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Like i said earlier, its about investing in your self. You’re not gonna make it in this industry if you don’t take the chances, and make the investments that are gonna help you seceded in the future.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
It’d definitely be at Lalapalooza in Chicago with Chance The Rapper.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
My EP Lysergic Thoughts is coming very soon! As of now it features King Los and Mark Battles. I’m still working on it but make sure you grab it when it drops! I have some hot tracks on this next tape!
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Probably would be caught up with all the other sheep. Music gave me the opportunity to speak for my city, which has been thru a lot. We’ve been ranked as the number 1 most deadly city in the U.S, we’re currently suffering the Flint Water Crisis, without music i’d probably been beaten down by now.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Look for Lysergic Thoughts to drop! After that I can promise new music with some of your favorite artist.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
Shout out to my city, Flint, Michigan. Shout out to my family WMM, KiiiD Angel, Cam Howe. Shout out to Cake Fiend! Shout out to LakeSide & Bossmane Bobby!
