Exposed Vocals just caught an exclusive interview with Daniel Pertsev
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I was born in a small country in the middle of Europe. We were really far away from the music industry, that’s why hearing good music on the radio was very rare; but thanks to my parents I grew up on the best that the music world has ever given to us. It was The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson and etc. My favorite childhood activity was listening to different cd’s . I was asking my dad to bring our big recorder and I could just spent hours and hours lying on the floor and listening to my favorite albums. Both of my parents are musicians so it was just the order of things that I was thinking only about music all the time. When I was 5 I started piano and vocal lessons in music school, and when I was about 12 I started to compose my own songs. Everything was just going its own way.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Constant work and self-improvement, patience and firm faith in what you do – all that is the basis of good results and success. Only hours of painstaking work will bring you to your goal. Patience is needed because nothing happens at once and faith fastens it all together turning it into a good result and realization of your own mission. Do not think about money, do not make plans and do not set success as your goal. You just need to put the work in and know why you are doing this. This way success will definitely find you.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Everything would be fake if there were no mistakes. It is very common, especially among vocalists, when mistakes occur during the performance at the emotional peak. For every performer it’s a very thin line – you need to give all your energy to the audience and at the same time pay attention and stay focused on what you do.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Unfortunately, for now I cannot share any funny stories. But it’s a matter of time. All I can tell you is that on the day of the concert I stay silent; and only when it gets to the evening I start talking and warming up. I also don’t eat 4-3 hour prior the concert in order for my body not to waste energy on digestion and give it all away to the audience. And there is one kinda secret potion for vocalists which is tea with grated ginger and lemon. I usually use it to recreate my voice after the concert.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
At a given moment, I’m working on the full-blown album, which, I hope, will be released in the beginning of the next year. But before the album, be sure that I will put out one more single and a video to it. Probably it would differ from “Go On”.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
In our modem world, everything you need for promotion is social media networks. It is also important to have the opportunity to collaborate with opinion leaders and influencers – one post of one famous blogger, actor or a musician can make your whole marketing campaign.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Perhaps it would be some kind of a boy band…Freddie Mercury, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Robert Plant и David Gilmour. This would be wonderful.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Sure, no doubt about it. As I mentioned before I’m planning to put out another single, I think it will happens in October – November this year, but I’m not sure yet. As it usually happens when you are a perfectionist there are a lot of corrections could be made. I will drop the album in the beginning of 2018.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
I would definitely stayed within the “art” sphere. May be as a writer or a painter. One of my passions is cooking, so I think I could have become a good cook. Besides all that I’m in love with marketing and business, maybe I could have become a successful entrepreneur. Musicians gotto be entrepreneurs as well, other way you may just spend your whole life in a studio unknown and unheard.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
I promise to bring joy and in some way to surprise my listeners with my album and the video. I also would like to go on tour, but it’s early to talk about it now.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
“Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living the result of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other opinions drown your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” Steve Jobs
