Exposed Vocals just caught an exclusive interview with “Camryn”
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Camryn :  I live in a small town close to Charlotte NC. I have always loved to sing, but decided to pursue it when I met Katy Perry. I was 8 years old and got to hang out with her at a local radio station during an interview and private concert. I have a pic of her and I, she signed my shirt ( I have it framed) along with a guitar pick and poster from that day.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
My EP is named Glimpse because it is a small sample of my music. I have always been a quiet person, and it is hard putting yourself out there-mostly when it’s music you have written. I hope everyone enjoys Glimpse. I know I had a blast making it
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Camryn : I am only 17 and still in high school, so I do not have to worry about paying bills……. yet. I have given my music away, just wanting
to be heard. I can afford to do that now. I am sure that will change when I am out on my own. I have donated CD’s of Glimpse for
auctions, and have sent a few copies out for free, like for wounded warriors and fund raisers. I will help out as long as I can.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Camryn: I was given some awesome advise last year by an artist names Brad Paisley. Play and sing as much as you can, where ever you can, you never know who is listening. Also, you don’t know unless you ask. Don’t be afraid to ask, and if you hear the word “No” don’t get discouraged.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Camryn: Yes, just go with it. It’s your music your playing and singing. No one will notice if you don’t miss a beat. Have fun and smile.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Camryn: I was involved with a tour in New Jersey, it was called Stand 4 Change. It was a group of viners, singers, and Youtubers against bullying. It was amazing seeing the fans come out and support us and each other. I would do it again in a heartbeat! Made some amazing friends, and met some awesome fans.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Camryn:  Listening to my songs, I am sure you can figure it out LOL! My song are usually about relationship, some good and some bad. I cannot write on demand. Sometimes, I will wake up in the middle of the night with a melody and lyric and have to write it down or make a voice recording.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Camryn : I have a website. It is www.camrynwilsonmusic.com  It has links to all my social media accounts. There are also links to buy Glimpse CD’s- you get a autograph pic with your purchase, links to buy Glimpse merchandise, and links to preview and purchase Glimpse thru CD baby. I have music on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and iHeart Radio as well!
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Camryn: Â Well, I love the Broadway Show Wicked, I have the soundtrack and listen all the time as well as the Lion King soundtrack from Broadway too.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Camryn:  I would travel, I would love to try camping. I have never gone camping before, and would love to! I would probably spend the money helping animals. I have two dogs that I love dearly- Hershey and Snickers. It breaks my heart to see animals neglected or abused.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Camryn: Â Well, I just finished recording Glimpse so my time will be spent performing and promoting Glimpse.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Camryn: Â I use social media and perform at local festivals and local singing spots.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Camryn: Â That would be Ms Katy Perry because she is the one who inspired me at 8 years old to sing, be proud, and not care what
other people say.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Camryn:  Promoting Glimpse. I will be performing at some local venues and going around introducing people to my music. There has been talk of going to LA next year, we shall see.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Camryn: Â Interior Design. I love decorating and recycling. Just did my room and everything I used to decorate was re-purposed or up-cycled with the exception of the tapestry over my bed. There are pictures on my instragram if you want to check it out!
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Camryn: It was the Lion King Broadway Soundtrack, a gift from my mom. She did not take me the first time she went to see it, but she bought the soundtrack home for me.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Camryn:  I have a very supportive family and I couldn’t do any of this without them. I will graduate next spring from High School, then I am afraid it may get hard trying to keep up with music and start college.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Camryn:  I would love to make a full album and be on national tour! That would be a dream come true for sure! Thanks to everyone reading this and everyone who has supported me. It has been amazing already. I am excited for the future!!!!!!
