Exposed Vocals just caught an exclusive interview with Aaron Salem
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist? Â
I grew up in Miami, FL. Music was something that kind of found me as cliche as that sounds. I was going through a lot as a kid. My sister became a intensive drug addict when I was only 10. My cousin had then showed me an Eminem song, and from then on I couldn’t help but relate to him. I wanted to see if I could pick up a pen and start writing some feelings down, and the rest is history.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?Â
It wasn’t really hard. After all, its my real name lol. My dads brother was murdered before I was born, and his name was Aaron. So thats where I got it from.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Music going digital is great. It can be confusing and complicated at times, but overall its always accessible. I love it. And yeah I do. Sometimes through contest and other things like that. Sometimes I just wanna give my fans something free.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists some tips?Â
Have patience. Its going to take time to find your sound. Its also a lot more then just making music. Its branding yourself, having an image, getting your mind right, finding yourself, and just a long spiritual journey.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?Â
Yeah I have lol. Every artist has. And yeah its easy, just keep the show going, the more you beat yourself up about something you can’t reverse, the more you’re just hurting yourself.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about? Â
Yeah I do. Ive slowed down being on the road for a bit so I can get back into studio. And yeah lol, but its just way to much to type. Come to a show and you’ll see for yourself.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process? Â
However Im feeling at that moment. Whether I’m in a good mood or bad, it kind of changes the feeling in the music. I start off by listening to the beat probably 50 times just spitting different ways to start the verse. I don’t say words when I start, I just mumble a flow. When I get the flow I start adding words to it.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a Artist website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?Â
I do. (www.AaronSalem.com). And pretty much every single platform there is. Youtube, VEVO, Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, iTunes, Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter, IG, etc..
Exposed Vocals: What is the message you want to relate to people with your music and why do you keep it clean ?Â
I mean every song is different. But the ones that have the messages in them tend to show a side of my life that they don’t know about. Or something Ive been through. And just showing them I’m just like any one else. Showing that someone in my shoes can still relate and feel what people feel on a day to day basis. And I use to curse a lot in my music before i got signed to a management deal lol. I just saw that if I kept it clean, not only would I be different, but I can market myself to a wider target of audiences.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it? Â
I would probably travel the world. See things I’ve never seen. Go to different countries.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a management or marketing team? Â
I do. Im with Heavy Management Worldwide, and they have they’re own marketing team. Which is great by the way.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you and where can people buy your music?Â
My marketing team & I always find different avenues. Whether through online marketing, or through SEO companies. Â And my music is available everywhere. iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Etc..
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why? Â
I would love to do a show with Drake. He’s a big inspiration with all my music and helped me find my own sound. And Probably at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL. I would love to perform beside him in my hometown.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?Â
I have a lot coming up. Just stacking up songs to see which order I want to release them in. Get ready!!
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
 Â
Damn, i don’t know lol. I’d probably want to study medicine and be a PA or something lol.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?Â
Â
Yeah my first album was “Thank Me Later” from Drake. I was a huge fan of Eminem but I always just streamed his music. I was to young to actually go out and buy his albums. I thought having the physical thing in my hand was cool though. I felt official lol.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life? Â
Its hard sometimes. It just comes with a lot of practice, meditation, patience, and self-control to be honest. Its all about finding the balance between work and fun. Priorities and Lazy Days.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2017? Â
The next big thing.
