Exposed Vocals just caught an exclusive with Eve Conway
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Eve: I grew up in a little town in North East England called Darlington, its a town with a lot of character! I was dancing, acting and singing from the age of 2 but as i got to about 12 i realised that i wanted to be an individual artist. The songwriting started when i was about 3 and my dad put on a John Taverner instrumental in the car and i started singing words so when we got home he wrote them down, we’ve never found that piece of music since!
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Eve: I used my real name, i didn’t want to be someone I’m not and thought that the best way to start doing that is use my real name!
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Eve: Its a great digital tool, music has been really challenged by the new comings of technology. I feel like it makes you work even harder as an unsigned artist. I do give my music for free, I’ve always said that its something i love to do and even people listening is payment enough.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Eve: Be a ‘Blag’ be annoying! make people remember you, Fake it until you make it.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Eve: Here and There! I try my best to have as much practice so that there is no room for mistake, but if there is i feel like just being honest with the crowd make it a bit of a joke and carry on!
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Eve:I haven’t toured yet but everywhere i go i try to sing! I sang at the scare cour in Paris thanks to a lovely busker who let me sing and the crowd all sang along it was monumental!
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Eve: Normally through things happening around me also i love making altar egos that i ca write stories about within the music. I normally start with words then the music just comes naturally.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Eve: I use the leading digital platforms such as Facebook especially for gig dates and keeping people informed, Sound cloud for regular new music to keep people interested, Twitter just for the occasional rant! and Instagram to show people the different venues I’m able to preform!
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Eve : The Beach Boys ‘Kokomo’ what an absolute tune. I promise you that song will lift you any mood you are in!
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Eve: Firstly i’d let my parents and Grandmother have a holiday for all the support they give me, its good to give back to them when they’ve watched all the ups and downs. Then i’d fly to Africa submerge myself into a completely different culture then get in the studio and create something beautiful but as D.H Lawrence wrote ‘When i wish i were rich i know I’m not well, i lack vitality’
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Eve: Currently working with my new manager David Saunders and new Producer Rob Irish on my single ‘Hunger’ Its a huge song and will be out in september!
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Eve: Word of mouth and live performance, This is probably the only real life way to promote now, people pay more attention to you when you are standing in front of them. There more likely to tell a friend or come and see you again.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Eve : Van Morrison and Adele on the same stage at glastonbury. Wouldn’t that be amazing? Such incredible people with the best songs of all time i would probably cry!
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Eve: I would be doing musical therapy for young children with autism and epilepsy also with the older generation suffering from Alzheimer’s and Dementia. The music business is quite a selfish place so id love to find a way to use the music and help people who don’t have the privileges we do in everyday life.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Eve: Atomic Kitten, i couldn’t contain my excitement. It was the most amazing feeling i used to stick the booklets from albums all over my room!
